MrCow you are right at 6 foot and can probably go either way depending on how long your legs are. I am 187 cm and I definitely feel more comfortable with the Extended reach seat and longer shift rod. My brother is about the size of Texasnurse and he would prefer another inch or two but he can ride it okay but it's not his kind of bike. He prefers heavy cruisers that turn like a freight train. ;-) I would first ride it a few days with the Mid Reach Seat and pegs until you get a feel for it. Than change the pegs and seat (if you have one) and see if that feels any better. I test drove the Vulcan S several times and I was always sitting on the hump in the back of the Mid Reach Seat so I knew I needed the Extended Seat for sure and I went with the extended reach pegs as well and it fits me perfectly now. Good Luck and enjoy the ride!

Post some pictures of your bike when you get the chance!

I have never seen them threaded in all the way like the picture. Doesn't seem right. There are always going to be some threads showing on the rod. That's why the instructions tell you to mark or count the threads of your previous rod so you have an idea where they should be with the new length rod. Mine have several threads showing on both sides and it was done by the dealer. Shifts just fine.

I'm thinking about moving my foot pegs back from the I think the mid reach position, I think that would give me more control over the bike. I know I have a mid reach seat. The guy who owned the bike before me installed wider foot pegs, how long is the mid reach shift rod in inches. There should be one hole in front of the pegs to move them forward and one hole behind the pegs move them back, right. So I think my pegs are in the mid reach position. I'm 5'9 and my feet feel to far out in front of me. Any advice would be helpful.
