Anyone have any recommendations for a windshield for a Vulcan S? I'm a relatively short rider looking for the right balance between wind protection and preserving the good looks of the bike.
Haha, you're on my wavelength again Custnam. I think you're aware I recently added a rider backrest. I also recently ordered a Madstad windshield, which is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. On my ride this afternoon, I rode 4-5 miles of highway, and I started thinking that with the backrest I might not even need the windshield. The backrest supported me from behind, so I didn't have the feelings of my arms being stretched (That is the perfect description btw) or the wind pushing my chest so hard it felt like I'd be pushed of the bike (That is a different, but just as uncomfortable feeling). Now the problem is- I only did 4-5 miles...Would I feel just as relaxed after 40-50 miles. I don't think so. I think that the quick-release Madstad will be an on/off situation for me, depending on the ride. Probably a must for a long freeway ride.I currently have the cafe one on my 23 and have been thinking of getting a taller one. And I was leaning towards the Puig touring. But Ive read a few posts where people said it barely did anything, and in some cases worked less than the cafe shield. Ive been doing a lot more day rides lately where on the way home the wind is very strong. I feel it mainly in my chest and after awhile I feel like my arms are getting stretched out if that makes sense. Almost like if I let go Id go flying off the rear. Im thinking that maybe a rider backrest would help with that. Anyone that has had both the cafe and the Puig touring have any comparisons, thoughts, etc? Thanks everyone!
Thanks. I will be passing on the Puig. For now I'm going to order the backrest and see how that works. I do know that the Cafe screen helps because when I first got my S it didn't have it. So I know the difference and the Cafe one does help. Mainly with noise levels.Haha, you're on my wavelength again Custnam. I think you're aware I recently added a rider backrest. One thing I do know, is the Puig windshield was a joke. I saw from your pic yesterday you are a big dude, as am I (But not as tall/rugged as you are). I'm built similar though with big, wide shoulders and such. Honestly, the Puig, and I got the biggest touring model they had, didn't offer me any support against the wind. I would advise you to pass on that one...
BTW: When are you going to paint you muffler cover? And what do you think about a color a little bit more solid than matte? I honestly think the muffler fits the bike very well size-wise, and love the fact that it's under the bike and not near my legs, but it's the dullest color item on the whole bike, and I intend to sharpen it up at some point.
LOL! I'm not thinking gloss, but maybe a ceramic paint, that would be a more solid color, and offer some protection from the rocks & gravel. Maybe just a high temp paint in Universal black might be okay...I'll be looking at painting probably next Summer, as I've finally got the "S" where I want it, and now just want to enjoy the ride.As far as painting I'm not a big fan of glossy paint. But I might go with something a bit darker than the oem paint. I wish there was some sort of protection on the bottom against all the rocks and stuff that has obliterated the paint under the muffler. I'd be willing to bet that everyone with that muffler has the same chips and missing paint as I do. It's not like I'm riding in gravel, but if you saw that area on mine you would think I use my S as a dirt bike! Lol.
Well here in Cali rains not an issue. And even when it does rain I'm still in that honeymoon phase with the bike and it hasn't gotten rained on yet.LOL! Another reason for the windshield in my case is rain protection. It rains a lot in New Hampshire, and if I venture on a 40 mile trip to see a friend, and then the rain comes, well I do have rain gear but without a shield it's a miserable ride home.
Hmm, that looks interesting. Do you get any buffeting (chest or helmet) from that windscreen? Here is what I have on my Vulcan S Cafe:
I only looked for polycarbonate to increase protection.N25042 Deflector Screen™

I’m looking for a wind shield for my vulcan s and am interested in the Madstad. The sizing video they provide isn’t very helpful unless you have the same bike they use in the video. On a Vulcan s, where do you measure from? Is the 18” the longest part of the shield or from the top of the arc? I’m looking to reduce wind noise and the Puig didn’t do the trick. I’m 5”10. I know this is an older thread. Hopefully youtill following.Have you thought about the windshield Madstad sells for our Vulcan S?

OOOOO...I like that!View attachment 262474
I went with the oem Kawasaki deflector. $373 for the deflector and mount kit from my dealer. A bit expensive but looks the best in my opinion. As well as blocking a bit of wind.
I'm sure there is no chance but if you still had this I'd buy it in a heartbeat.Have you thought about the windshield Madstad sells for our Vulcan S?

Click on their avatar, it will tell you when they were last seen, this one almost 2 years ago, the spoils of replying to old threads.I'm sure there is no chance but if you still had this I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Imagine if your legs got caught behind them as the rest of your body goes over the handlebars when you tbone someone....@barnachea.jeff Those sliders/highway pegs look very dangerous. If you go down it looks like they'll either eat your leg or no telling what would happen when they dug into the road. Curious why you covered your license plate on the bike but not on the GMC.

That looks nice and clean. Which model? Is it fork mounted or handlebar?Since I started this thread (and thanks for the many suggestions!), I went with the Puig windshield. Pix attached. Installation was very easy and I think it looks good on the bike. Just took it for a freeway ride and I'm very satisfied. There's a little bit (not a lot) of buffeting at my collarbones and right under my chin, but honestly I don't think it's any more than without the windshield, and probably less. So, a satisfied customer....View attachment 263015 View attachment 263016
