I have the same wine on my 2009 se 900 custom mine sounds like its coming from the rear left of the bike though by the pulley area?? dont know so many people say all these sounds are normal

 

Possibly from the F/I system,

Any ideas what it could be?

It is a 2009 Vulcan 900 Special Edition.. I bought it brand new, and it only has about 800 miles on it... I believe it started maybe about 200 miles ago..

My F/I can be heard when i turn the key on, cant hear it with the bike running, the motor is to bloody noisey.

 

The VN900 makes alot of noise. There are plenty of threads about this. You can search the site for them. Whining is very common. This is even more prominent with windshields as they funnel the sounds. You can hone in on the sound by fixin' your own stethescope...either the real thing, a lentgh of tubing, etc... Check the bottom left side of the engine. The charging system is a real gem. Happy hunting.

 

Drive line noise 900 lt



I have an 07 900 lt and it is noisy. I loosened the belt until it flexes about 45 deg. at mid point, and changed the oil to 20 50 synthetic, and debaffled the pipes, fixed most of it, but the nature of the beast is still there and is normal but I detest calling it normal.

 

As the engine loosens up around 3k miles it will make even more noise. You either have to get used to it or debaffle the pipes (or get new ones) to drown out the engine noise. If it's a whirring noise on the lower left side get your piggy bank ready for a withdrawl.

 

From the day I bought my 09 Vn 900 Custom brand new, I would hear a whining noise that sounded like it was coming from the pulley. After doing some research, I thought i needed a belt adjustment. I brought the bike to Kawi for a tune-up, and told them about the noise. After the tune-up, they rode about 5 miles on the bike, and they said all the noises that I am hearing are perfectly normal. Anyway, i got louder pipes, so the noise isnt as noticeable anymore. I know it's there, and I hear it some times, but the pipes do a good job of drowning it out.

 

Yep I was told the same so I just ordered my cobra sweeps in black ill post pics when i put them on If i can figure out how to post pics LOl

 

I have 14 k on my 9LT and the noises have just started. The natural solution for me is to crank up the tunes.

 

Denis made an important comment on the charging system, the whining noise in my 06' 900 cost $997.00 to repair, but at least it's gone. The Stator windings were beginning to delaminate causing a high pitched whine. It didn't seem as though it affected the way she ran. The dealers mechanic wasn't sure about the noise himself until a call to Kawi gave them the idea to check the stator.

 

Another note on that whine...

I started hearing that whining noise a little over a year ago. It would come and go but it got louder and more consistent over the months. One day, while in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the freeway, the bike stalled but started right back up. Then just a couple weeks ago, it stalled but wouldn't start back up. No click, no lights, no nothing. The charging voltage was nothing and the stator output was peaking at only about 20V per leg so I replaced the stator.

The new stator brought the charging system back up to specs as expected but the real surprise was that the whine noise was now completely gone. I think that whine was the stator trying to warn me that it was going out.

 

Whining while slowing down

Hi guys

I am a new 900 driver and I took my 09 out for a short ride this weekend. When I slow down it sounds like an ambulance is coming! I did have to charge the battery when I got it as it the bike wouldn't turn over.

So, based on the 'sirens' when slowing down any ideas what it could be?

My 08 started making the whining noise at 10,000 miles and at 18,000 miles the electrical system took a dump and turned out to be a bad 'stater'. The dealership repleced it and now the whining noise is all gone. Thank God for extended warrenties!!!

 

I had heard the noise for a while, even asked about it when i took it in for service, then one day the engine stopped and my battery was dead. I took it to a the closest shop rather then the one i had been to before. They took care of the repair, plus corrected some other things under warranty. I'm still happy with the bike, just changing where i go for service.

 

The mechanics in my shop weren't sure about where the whine was coming from in my bike either but they have a pipeline to Kawasaki Tech and they suggested the Stator, the whine was gone after changing it. Mine failed at 27,000 miles.
