So i decide to have lunch at a local watering hole and cool off a bit from working outside,Im sitting at the bar watching the news waiting for my food and two guys wheel in on a couple harleys,I can see them through the window looking at my bike and one of them makes a gesture of like he is going to kick it,as they come in the one guy just blurts out who owns the bike outside and i reply that I do,He procedes to tell me that someone needs to call a scrap truck to pick it up,So i tell him if thats the case then i would probably get more for it than what hes riding, well he got pretty pissed about the comment,So i had to sit their and listen to the BS they were giving me about my ride, and why was I in a bar drinking pop with my food instead of beer,I just keep my mouth shut and ignored them witch seemed to aggervate them more, anyway roughly 40 mins later they decide to leave,I was done with my food and i could see them still outside, thinking this might be a bad thing, i went outside and got on my so called scrap bike,Well the one HD jerk(their not all jerks) was having problems getting his bike to start and proceeds to give me more so i fired up my bike(waiting for that vulcan start up idle)and went down the street turned around and pulled up put it in second and did a huge smokey burnout in front of em and yelled who's riding the scrap bike now. I love bikes of anykind but when it comes to idiots like this I have no use what so ever for em. RESPECT THE VULCAN!!!!!

Some people are that way, insulting based upon nothing more than a small, insignificant difference. When I group ride, I'm the only metric. No disrespect given to me and none given back (except for one guy; we love to needle each other in fun). When respect is given, respect is returned; some people I fear have never heard of that. When I encounter HD riders new to me, I ask about their bikes, they ask about mine, we find we like our own bikes for our own reasons, and we part knowing that regardless of make, as long as we are dirty side down, life is good.

Ride On Brother...:flag: Some people don't get it. Its not about what you ride. Its about the Ride. I love to ride bottom line no BS and thats is all its about for me. Im not trying to impress anyone. I could care less if you ride a HD, Honda, Suzuki, Ducati, etc, Or what ever who care or gives a S$%T:clown:. I grew up around motorcycle and I dig all of them they are all cool in their own way. Granted I love my vulcan, But I dont knock a person for the type, Or Brand of bike they ride thats just plain IGNORANT:monkey:. My Helmet off to you for keeping your cool and dignity and not lowering yourself to that type of BS:poop:. I get so many compliments on my bike I cant count them all. I just say thanks and carry on, some times I get into full conversations on the subject. Whats funny is some People go wow nice Harley then I educate them, and they are even more shocked its a Kawasaki and how little I paid for it. I still dont get the whole HD branding everything since when did riding a motorcycle become a fashion statement. Oh well thats my rant. Any way I fully agree with you. Can't we all just get along.

Im sure he was just pissed he paid 20 grand for a bike that wouldnt start. There are some HD guys that are so ignorant its sad. They throw the whole, "made in america" speech , then hop in their foreign car and drive away. If you would like some ammo against these idiots, harley davidson is now making bikes in Idia

http://articles.cnn.com/2010-11-04/...010-11-04/world/india.bikes_1_india-market-harley-davidsons-haryana?_s=PM:WORLD

I tell them i would rather ride a bike that one our allies built. LMAO

My opinion is the HD has gone the way of the Jeep. People think just because they buy one somehow they are instantly part of the group or society that made them famous. With the Jeeps it was the Rock Crawlers and Hard Core Off-Roaders and with the HD it is the 1%.

I had a situation like that once, i was off duty from the police department and i was eating at burger joint i frequent on or off duty, a couple of guys made some comments to me about my bike, the waitress came up and gave me my ticket and said "have a nice vacation officer "K" ', and they immediately shut up and walked again.. i never said it word, it was great.. funny thing was, they weren't even on harley's or anything.. they carpool'd in a VW Beetle.. *shrug* People are just @$$holes

Don't want to start a conversation about 'the wave', but I get less acknowledgement from other riders than I ever did when I rode a standard or sportbike. The sportbike riders just blank me. The HD riders do this hilarious bit where you can see them scrutinising the ride before they decide whether I'm worthy of recognition or not (in other words most of them can't tell a Harley from a 'rice burner' from more than about 20 feet), then they blank me. The only waves (actually it's usually nods here) are from other Jap-cruiser riders.

I can understand why HD riders are like that. The Company is largely to blame as it issues a pretty constant stream of that kind of BS itself. That's really what it's selling, not bikes. Although I'm not dissing the bikes because I like some of them a lot and would probably consider owning one if I could afford it.

As for the made in US/India debate, I'd still say my IKEA furniture is made in Sweden even though I had to put it together myself.

HD syn oil vs AMsoil syn

Then we got this here AMsoil liquid honey slip'ry stuff. iz also muey 'spensive.

They sell you a notorius unreliable bike, then sell ya a warranty , then say you have to use our products or we wont honor the warranty! Thats good buisness, i used Mobil 1 v-twin last change. Good stuff for 6 a quart on sale at checkers

I am a firm believer in "american made" because I am a union auto worker. Although, we can't all afford a 15-20k dollar bike and the sportster is just too damn small! There will always be those ones who think that Harleys are better than any other bike, but if you ask them what the first bike they had was, they will probably tell you it was an asian.

Just my $.02

Being a US Army soldier who has deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan and bunch of other countries to keep America safe im into "American Made" as well. Just not into getting raked over the coals. Those HD guys can show their American Pride by flashing thier harley badge on their bar runs, ill just go run around the mountians of Afghanistan chasing bad guys , guess im the unpatriotic one because i drive a jap bike. LMAO

BSE,

*()holes are everywhere. They come from all colors, ages, regions, and every socio-economic status. The fact is your bike looked cool enough for them to notice. Congrats on keeping your cool when they were pushing your buttons. Like BigSarge stated, these guys aren't willing to step up to the plate and serve America. So their opinion is well..... worthless. I have Harley guys checking out my bike consistently, and I usually get a compliment (it's a military town). Sounds like you ran into a couple of bad apples. Keep the shiny side up. I personally think your bike looks awesome, regardless of where it was manufactured.

Well there seems to be @holes in ever walk of life , the largest share HD riders I know are respectful and welcome me to ride with them. You can't knock them for being proud of there bikes and brand loyal any more than we are of ours.
While stupid individuals can sour you on the brand, where we stand in todays world market Harley Davidson is one of the few American success story's IMO , they have come from the dark and murky AMF days when they were all but done for to the status they now hold. They had no government bailout. Whether you like HD or not I give them credit for resurrecting them selves and having the market share in motor cycling they now hold. They have achieved cult like status on there own, that you can't deny.
I would hope Harley Davidson and most of there owners would be embarrassed to know that some insecure mini-penis wana -b's would act out such juvenile behavior in there name sake, it's so pathetically jr high. Some boys never get past puberty. Sounds like what comes around / gos around put them in there place though. Smoke em if you got em :D

I'm pretty sure the government-imposed 45% tariff on imported motorcycles in the 1980's amounted to a bailout. :)

So i decide to have lunch at a local watering hole... I love bikes of any kind but when it comes to idiots... I have no use for 'em.
I quit getting bothered. It matters more to them than it does to me. I don't care. I have a nice bike. I have several nice bikes, and I'm proud of them all. I have had them all apart and put them all back together. None of them are perfect. I know their strengths and weaknesses, and they're still nice bikes.

It's about the grin. That's all that matters.

This is the Vulcan forum. I'm also on a V-Star forum and a Burgman forum and a sports bike forum and an adventure-touring forum. This Harley thing is everywhere, and it's silly.

Yesterday I was on the way home with supper from a take-out place nearby. I rode my little scooter because I didn't want to change into full riding gear to go three blocks. A guy on a nice cruiser pulled out to head the other way. I already had the grin on my face but I started to make the hand salute and stopped, realizing I was on my little scooter and without leathers. he saw that, saw my grin and my hesitation and grinned back, saluting as he went by. He was on very nice burgundy Road King.

This group is a bunch of guys with Vulcans. It's a subgroup of a bunch of guys with motorcycles. We have that grin in common. Why look for differences when we have that to celebrate?

Those guys were idiots, truly, and we all regret that such idiots exist. You don't know and I don't what they were trying to prove or who they were trying to prove it to. Does it matter? As soon as you play the game you lose, so why bother? Let them be idiots without feeding the trolls, and celebrate the fact that your bike is best, and gives you the biggest grin.

Ride safe, and avoid the animals

I have been around some pretty snobby HD owners myself and it is a shame. I Love all bikes and go out of my way to be courteous to fellow riders. In my opinion their bike may be the biggest ugliest piece of crap but hey if they like it that is all that matters to me, and as I said I would go out of my way to be nice.
I just got my Nomad so I will see what kind of reaction it gets, my Shadow ACE I would get allot of compliments on it from non motorcycle people, and some other metric riders, and on ocassion an HD owner, but at times found myself around just plain rude people that frankly would make me never want to own an HD for fear of being like them!

I Love Harleys, I love the way they sound, I love that every part on the bike is metal, I love the huge transmission casings, the beefy parts, etc.

But I, in my present economic situation refuse to pay the premium for one. At the end of the day, my Vulcan is a motorcyle, it`s a v-twin, it cruises, it rumbles, it roars. It is the reason I (and my woman) get to feel wind in our faces while we wear huge stupid grins.

At the end of the day, doesn`t ANY motorcycle provide that? When we ride or I ride alone, everyone gets the wave, right down to a moped. We always laugh and shake our heads when we get nothing back from someone on a hog... or of course, someone on a hog that can't tell and waits for the last 20 feet before they decide not to wave back.

Really, it should be two groups: those who drive and those who ride. What you ride shouldn't matter.

well, actually they did. Prez Reagan made a federal (loan) to the buyers of hardley-ableson so they could retool and remake the product. These group of insiders included Willie G. Davidson. they were smart 'nuff to retool the "brand" and started marketing the "image" and took control over the "HD logo" for all the aftermarket parts and accessories and eventually the clothing line. All the profitable companies making aftermarket products to fit HD now had to pay royalties for use of the logo. Sorta like when IBM had a handle on microsoft. diffren outcome story. but same leverage.
hardley-ableson would have gone the way of the dinosaur if the feds hadn't come to thier rescue in mid 80's.

I guess I didn't remember that. They are still a success story none the less using smart business strategy, and I believe they build a much better product than they did before , at least I see less guys pushing them now than in the 70's & 80's.

I couldn't have put it better myself otter! I agree with you 99% I don't give"the wave" to moped riders because to me it's not the same. Giving "The wave" to me means I understand the freedom you are feeling right now. I understand your feelings and whats going through your mind when your on your bike and in the wind right now, that all your problems and worries are behind you for the moment and nothing else right now matters but you, your bike and the road. Personally, I don't give a dam what kind of bike you ride...as long as you can get to the speed that free your mind and soul. Mopeds can't do that and therefore would never understand.

of course you dont see as many guys pushing harleys.....every harley dealer HAS to have an enclosed trailer on hand and available 24/7 for rescue of broken down bikes....and usually this is an unmarked unit....not the fancy full of h-d logos one you see at the shows......

I'm just a little curious......Isn't the image the HD is selling to it's customers that of the outlaw bikers of the 50's and 60's? And wasn't one of their main points was that they didn't want to fit in or conform to what society wanted?

And now these select HD owners are fighting with us because we won't fit in or conform to their society? So, who does that make more of the outlaw biker?

Sounds like some people take the Sons of Anarchy a little too seriously. Some of the "hardcore" harley guys in the "Clubs" down here in south texas take it too seriously also like refusing to wave to anybody. I carry a concealed Glock 27 so it doesent bother me. haha. Ride safe.
Hmmmm....ok. Think maybe this thread has run its course?

Sons of Anarachy is the most ******* crackhead stereotypical series I have seen...I do not know how someone can watch that trash. From a former LE...most "clubs" appear to be nice and dandy because they do some things to the community...to disguise themselves but the reality of the thing is that they deal drugs left and right and they have stupid childish territory wars...the way I look at bike gangs..they never grew up from being bullies
