Just bought (and returned) a Puig windscreen, so adding some thoughts here for reference. I'm a short rider (5"5'), using the limited reach seat, but otherwise all the ergo-fit systems are in the original configuration. I plan to do some highway riding this season, so I wanted to get a windscreen to get the wind off my chest. I tried the Puig windscreen for exactly 1 ride, with speeds ranging to 75mph and strongly disliked it. I noticed immediately puttering out of my neighborhood at 20mph the amount of wind noise around my helmet, and it only got worse as speed increased. At highway speeds, I felt like less of a sail in the wind, but the wind noise in my helmet was extremely unpleasant vs no windscreen. I'd rather have the "sail" feeling, so I uninstalled the windscreen immediately and shipped it back.

The Puig looks great on the bike, is an absolute breeze to install, and everything seems to be quality materials. It's the design that lets it down. I suppose I could have added earplugs to knock down the noise, but I like to use my Sena to listen to music and talk to friends. I may try the MadStad next.

I live in Dallas and the wind is actually killing it for me to the point where I want to get something more aerodynamic or something with a tall windscreen like a ADV like the Versys, V-Strom etc.

Now I have looked at tons of videos on Youtube and read up a lot online but I just cant justify spending $600 on a windshield that may solve on problem and introduce another.

Before splurging on a Puig, Madstad, National Cycle, KQR etc has anyone tried these cheap ones from ebay?

Cafe style for $70

18 inch Puig style for $55

I know this could be polycarbonate and get scracthed up easily compared to the acrylic ones etc but it wont matter if you are planning on keeping the bike for a couple of years before moving on to something new

I very much prefer the cafe style. The big clear ones just don't look right to me on this bike.
i think if you are looking to cutt off wind then the big clear ones are a necessity, atleast for me here in Dallas cruising on highway is no fun with cross winds and head winds feel like my chest is getting pounded with hammer!

Hi, all I ended up getting the $56 18-inch windshield from eBay, it got delivered yesterday and I installed it right away.
Because of rain and not having my helmet I could not take the motorcycle on a highway but did drive around in the parking lot which was useless for finding how effective the windshield is.

Here is a summary
1) $55 is way cheaper than any of the other options Puig, Madstad, National Cycles etc
2) Installation was very easy
3) Quality could have been better; the windscreen is not perfect there are some minor imperfections from the fabrication process looks like tiny water drops which doesn’t really bother me much because it not noticeable.
4) Optically there is some distortion when you look through the screen it is not perfect but again not bad considering the size and price. It sits low enough so I don’t have to look through the screen unless I am looking at something close to my front wheels which is rare and one should not do while riding.

Here are some pics
Hopefully my helmet will be delivered today and I will be able to take it for a ride on the highway and I can comment on the turbulence and buffeting.

All in all, I wanted to try this out before spending the $300-500 for a good one and see if the screen actually does make any difference.

I had a large Kawasaki windshield, (those are fixed windshields) on my Vulcan S and it caused a lot of wind buffeting, vibrating my helmet. I send it back and got a National Cycle windshield that is adjustable, works pretty good provided that it is not a windy day.
Here is my Mastad windshield that came with the bike that I bought used. Highly recommend it; makes a huge difference.

I've just bought a used Vulcan S 650 and having it shipped to me. It comes with a large OEM KQR windshield, but from the pictures I've seen it looks to be a bit big and takes away from the bike's appearance. I've owned three other bikes in the past all with medium windscreens, and for the most part they did they job just fine.

I do want to have a fair amount of wind protection (I think) but don't want something that looks too obtrusive.

Keep the large on? Get a medium? Any advice?

Thanks in advance!
I live right on lake Erie the bugs in the summertime are horrendous,So i like the bigger windshields National Cycle makes some good ones.

Trust me, the Kawasaki OEM "Large" windshield isn't that large. I believe it's 17 inches in height. Way too short for me and most people 6 foot and over. So if it has the large windshield don't get one smaller it won't look any better just 3 inches shorter which I think looks worse than the Larger shield. If you don't like it sell it and get the much more functional Madstad windshield. Vulcan S (2015 - Up)
But if you are only in it for looks just remove it and go without. But if you do any sort of highway travel you will wish you had it. :wink2:
Is the madstad windshield compatible with the kqr fork brackets that are already on the bike (I have the Cafe windshield)? I like the kqr system and don't want to have to replace those brackets for the madstad windshield, as I will still be using the Cafe windshield most of the time.

Looks good..it will probably keep the wind off your body and keep your head in clean air.
We either have to have a tall windshield to send the air over our helmet or a shorter one that keeps the helmet in unmolested air..anything in between causes the turbulence on our helmet.
Personally I use a cheap ebay one on my 500..I can change the angle on the move..I pull it back it town and close to straight up for the four lane highway..My helmet has a visor..on the slower highways I can leave the screen back and change the turbulence by just changing my head angle a little bit.
I think your screen will work out...but your head will be in the wind...without the shaking though.
