I have a 2005 Nomad. When the bike is cold, that is the temperature is below 75F or so, the speedometer doesn't work until the bike warms up and then while I riding along the speedometer begins to show low speed that don't reflect how fast I'm actually going, but once it starts, it will show the correct speen within a few minutes. However wheter the speedometer is working or not, the odometer continues to work. Also when starting the motor, the speedometer needel doesn't go through the regular starting movement, but when warm it does. Has anyone heard of this? Any ideas what causes this and how to fix it?

Speedometer doesnt work when cold

I have a 2005 1600 Nomad, I have experienced this for a few years. I brought it back to the dealer annually for general maintenance and I tried everything they told me. Like charge the battery, use a battery tender, etc. My warrenty was expiring and I brought it up again.

They replaced the speedometer and its been working since. I still dont know what the problem was but its fine now.

Not too much help but the dealer could not figure it out either for years.

speedo issue also

My 06 Nomad has the same issue as busherm with the speedo. Speedo doesn't work after the bike sits overnight, but the odometer works properly. After a few kilometers, it begins to read low (around 20kph) then eventually . reads normally. Works fine for the rest of the day. Seems to be an internal problem, as the speedo is electronic and the odometer still works. Also, the needle fails to sweep the dial when the ignition is turned on when it isn't going to work properly. Anyone found out anything further on this front?? On suggestion of a local motorcycle mechanic, I disconnected the battery for several minutes and reconnected. Apparently this solved this issue on another make of bike. Will see what happens tomorrow:confused:
