Hello guys. i have been riding now for a few years on my 2005 gsxr 600 and i am looking to get into a vulcan 900 this riding season. I hope i can answer all of my questions and concerns with all your guys help.

Im 5'10" 260lbs and i am fed up riding for an hour and having numb hands and a sore back. im looking into a vulcan 900 custom because of the style of it(I'm 24) and want something that does not make me look like an old man riding a cruiser.

i am only concerned about the power difference going froma sport bike to a street bike. have any of you made this change and are happy with your decision. im scared to take the plunge on the 900 and not be satisifed with the power. i ride mostly alone but will ride 2up every other weekend for about an hour or 2.

should i be concerned with the 900 or take the plunge and not look back?

Speaking as someone who has both types (Vulcan classic 800, rc51, gsxr 750, r6) you'll notice cruisers aren't as peppy as sports bikes. I bought my cruiser because I was tired of going numb also. Sure, its not as fast as the plastics , but the ride is more enjoyable. I'm 34, 6'2 210 and don't feel like its too small. Of course it'll always be quicker than a car, so its up to personal preference. I enjoy riding no matter what it is really. But that's just me

I love my 900. I rode my brother-in-law's 1300 Yamaha when I was looking for a new bike. The power difference didn't bother me. I'm 6'2" 235lb and my wife is 5'10" 170lbs. We travel on the interstate highways quite often without a problem. I had a 2007 and went to a 2010 900. I liked the 45-50 mpg over 40-45 too. I'm glad I bought another 900 instead of something bigger.

I wouldn't be so concerned with how you look on your new bike, I don't think many people will care, and what for if they did? The bike looks sharp, you should like it for that, it will make you respect it more. Whatever power your looking for at 260 lbs, it will get you around good enough. If you want a monster, buy a monster. Cruiser means just what the name implies. It's your choice whether you want to ride it like one or not. I'm 6'2" and mine fits just a little short on me (but comfortable), at a humble 220lbs. I'm guessing at 5'10" you should fit pretty swell.

This reminds me. I once took my mother's uncle's car off his hands when his wife passed away. It was a 1986, mint, lincoln town car signature series, 30,000 miles or so. He had it under bubble wrap in the garage because she could not drive it anymore due to health reasons. So, I took it in to a local old timer to get some dual exhaust put on it to get a few more horse outta it and make it sound better. The gentleman kindly looked at me like I was stupid and said, "what?" He said, "Son, you don't drive these things to race, you'd be better off enjoying the ride and driven slow. That's how you'll get the most out of this car." I took his advice after being a very aggressive driver for many years previous and I am sure glad I did. Mind you, that car had the Mustang 5.0 in it so I could get up and go if I needed to. But, I loved that car because I drove it for what it was, and I got the most outta it for what it was.
