I thought I should do a little write up on my experience with painting my Delkevic Stainless Steel 550mm / 21inch.
Now I have already painted my muffler but I wanted it to match the headers as well.
Step 1 - Buy Paint
Exhaust systems get hot and so you will need paint that can withstand the heat.
I bought 4 cans of Flat black , 1 can of Primer and 1 can of clear
I only used 2 and half cans of paint .
Step 2 - Prep
Find somewhere to comfortably paint the exhaust system and hose it down .
Step 3 - Sanding
Stainless steel is too smooth! Ensure you sand down the entire thing! Everything that is going to be painted needs to be sanded.
Paint won't stick to anything smooth , thats why you need to sand it down to let the paint grip.
I used 280 grit paper with water and got great results .
Make sure you get every spot.
Step 4 - Cleaning and Primer
Clean down everything! Wax and Grease remover is your best friend!
Wipe everything down and start applying Primer
Once Primer is dry , lightly sand any imperfections.
Follow the cans instructions!
Step 5 - First Coat
Apply your first coat light and at a distance
Step 6 - Second Coat
Second coat is a little heavier
Step 7 - 3rd / Final Coat really depends on the look you are going for.
Heaviest coat
Step 8 - Clear Coat
Same as the paint and primer. Spray light then heavier later.
Step 9 - Admire!
Step 10 - fitment
Now depending on the brand of paint, you will be able cure the paint on ride/car .
When you are curing the exhausts , you will see a lot of smoke and terrible smell.
