Carburator outlet connection?

Hello,
I have a 1997 Vulcan 1500 Classic (VN1500-D20) which I recently had some wwork done on and since have been getting an occasional gas smell. I was checking for possible causes and noticed that the carburator has an outlet which is not connected. It has a single carb and this photo is looking at it from the right side of the bike. Does anyone know where this should be connected?

Thanks,
Mark

your picture is small, but i think its the breather, i just looked at mine (tank off) and mine has a pipe conected there that runs back and vents under the seat by the battery............ look above the carb, you may see the pipe hanging.... theres 3 pipes, one small vacuum at the back, and two larger ones at the left side when viewed from the carb intake, bottom one is fuel (check the damn plastic elbow aint leaking) top one seems to be a breather as i described.

chances are the mechaninc forgot slip it back on..........hopefully he didnt forget anything else...........................................

Thanks for the response. When I had the tank off there were no other lines visible in the area which weren't connected. I'll look behind the dog bowls to see if there are any open ports which maybe should be connected to the carb.

Thanks again,
Mark

The hose should be close by, it's indeed a vent hose. It's the one just to the left of the screwdriver after the fuel line. The fuel line is gray, the vent hose is black. Maybe it was removed on your bike.

Thanks Pat for the additional photos and info. There's no hose so the shop must've lost it and not replaced it as I'm sure there were no open ports on the carb when I took it in. I'll get a piece of hose and route it down with the rest of the hoses that go down below the bike. As always the forums are the place to go for the correct info!
