I've got another electrical mod to do and need access to the underside of the brake lamp housing. I'm pretty sure I don't want to try this with the fender installed. I looked through the various threads and can only find references to bobbing or replacing the fender with something else. I'd really like to know how easy it is to remove the fender without hosing things up. Thanks, in advance.

One of the easiest jobs. Remove the seat.Disconnect the seat lock cable. Follow the wiring that comes out of the hole in the fender to the plug in front of the battery and unplug it. Remove the four bolts holding the chrome side trims whilst holding the fender and carefully lift the fender away from the bike. Reverse to re-fit! Simple!

I replaced my rear fender. Not hard just time consuming. Took a whole 18 pack and two cigars to get er done.
No i don't have a beer can fender...but that is something to think about. My back fender was cracked due to the previous owners wife tapping it with her car. I was able to fend one at the dealer for 200 bucks already painted in my color ready to slap on.
Ok. I removed the rear fender last night. It was a piece of cake.
1. Remove seat
2. Remove tool kt / battery cover
3. Disconnect rear wiring harness
4. Unscrew seat lock mechanism
5. Remove fender covers
6. Remove fender bolts (it helps to hold the rear of fender when you remove the last bolt)
7. Let fender slip down to rest on tire
8. Slide fender out (staying under the fender supports)
Once I did all of that I flipped the fender over to get access to the underside of the brake light housing. But that didn't really get me access to the wiring I needed. I flipped the fender back over and removed the license plate light cover. Bingo. All the connections to the brake, turn signals, and license plate light are right there. And then I felt stupid for removing the fender. But now I know how to remove the fender, and I now know how to get access to the all the rear lighting connections.
