air leaking around spokes

I have a 2008 1500 classic. Last week i picked up a nail and two additional cuts in the rear tire.

I took it to a dealer yesterday, had them put a new tire on it. Rode it home, got up this morning and the tire was flat.

I checked to see if I had managed to cut the tire in the 15 miles I rode it, but found nothing. Sprayed soapy water on it, and found where the air is leaking.

I am losing approx 20 pounds of pressure every hour around the spokes. About a half dozen of them are bubbling like crazy.

Could this be from something the shop did? I wash the bike every 2 weeks, and 2 weeks ago there were no bubbles coming from around the spokes.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

yup sounds like a leaky tube....a spoked wheel on a motorcycle is just like a spoked wheel on a bicycle......if air is leaking out there are only 2 way for to be comming out....a leaky air valve or a hole in the inner tube....shop should have checked inner tube before mounting a new tire or maybe even suggested a new tube.....of course they are not 100% at fault either....you should have informed them about the nail as well... as for the tube being missing as the previous poster sugested....dont thinks so.....if the tube were not there then putting air in the tire to begin with would be a tad difficult....as the valve stem is a part of the tube !!!

Non-spoke rims have valve stems but no tube. Like on the 900 Custom.
I was suggesting that perhaps the installer treated this like a non-spoke rim and put in a regular valve stem instead of a tube.

figured it out

The dealership apparently pinched the tube when they were "putting it all together. Should have it back from the dealer, who accepted the responsibility and apologized, tomorrow. Would have had it today, but I did not drop it off until nearly closing time.

Hopefully they put a new tube in and make sure the liner between the spokes and the tu e is alright...Good luck....

As an aside, I make it a point to always replace the tubes when I replace tires.

Nail in Tire..

Must be contagious, I had one a few weeks ago. Took it to the dealer to replace tire. FIrst of all any spoked wheel has a tube and a liner inside to protect against the spokes puncturing the new tube. Secondly, if you have any type of leak, take it back.. watch them remove the tire and wheel and see if the tube is crinkled/punctured, and if they put the liner back in it. Watch them carefully..
