I love this bike and it would be perfect it had a 6th gear.

Power, handling, and sound (now that I drilled some holes) are excellent.

And the look is amazing. I get more compliments on the bike then I ever had on other bikes.

Just need that elusive 6th gear.

You're asking for lower rpm's in a bike whose engine is designed to be run at higher rpm's. The cutoff comes around 7200 which, if you stop to think about it, is rather high for a v-twin. 70mph is around 4100. If you absolutely feel the need to lower the engine speed, check out the Scootworks front pulley. Lots of riders have them and like them very much.

You hit on the eternal argument of "front pulley" vs "run at high rpms". If you just do a search on Scootworks or "front pulley" you will find a few threads with all the arguments listed.

I, like you, was always trying to shift up. Got tired of it, installed the front pulley, and it has been perfect (for me). Search also on "rear tire 200", if you plan to do that this could help lower the cruise rpms for you enough that gets rid of the issue (going to a 200 on the rear).

I think most of us agree that you should give it a little time (3 to 4K miles or so) to get used to it and also to allow the engine to break in, I mean before you go spending hard earned cash. It might feel smoother after the break in and a couple of oil changes. I just went to synthetic on mine and it makes a big difference as well.
