Huh?

The 1700 I sat on has the foot controls a few inches more forward than the 1500 I currently have, and I don't feel cramped on my bike at all. I'm 6-4" and weigh 265. If anything, I thought the 1700 controls are further away, not closer.

I bought a used 1600 Nomad because the 1700 felt cramped. The 1700 has my long legs in an uncomfortable position. (I'm 6-6 and 240lbs) I rode an 800 Suzuki for 4 years, and tried every bike I could before getting the 1600. the Nomad felt just right without the $500 worth of extras the others needed to get there.
(Btw 1st post & I'm loving all the info I'm finding so far.

Yep. That's why the make different bikes!

I should say that though I'm 6-4, my legs are quite short for my height. I have a 32 " inseam, but my lseeves are 36-37". Kind of like a gorilla!:D

That would probably be it. I have a 36' inseam, and wear 38 length jeans when I ride, otherwise it looks like I'm wearing Capri pants. I bought the Nomad in Oct, and only managed a few trips over 100 miles so far. Found out last week it starts just fine in 10 degree temps. Rides great too.

I've owned a few nomad, 1 started with an o5 1600, was a beautiful looking& immaculate beast, but it was a bit of a handful slow speeds& generally moving it about, great on hwy..then got an old 98 needed a serious clean up but looks exellent now..it was like riding a 250 after the 1600 was nimble and real easy & enjoyable, bit down on power, from one little carby. (It's still my daily) I love it's metallic green colour even if it's a bit ruff, just bringing my new 1700 home today from Queensland Australia, so I'll see how it goes. Felt pretty good just with a tiny ride, looking forward to 6th gear & cruise control + not filling up so soon. Definitely my favourite type of bike..
