Who has or has not had problems with their 900?

I have owned four of these bikes now and was wondering what other owners who have actually accumulated some miles have or have not seen for problems with these bikes.I have a tendency to switch bikes often so have never really put a lot of miles on any of the four.I did have a 2009 that dripped some coolant at about 3000 miles which I resolved by tightening some hose clamps under the gas tank. Also had small amounts of oil form (same bike) on the wiring harness that runs to the regulator.Never did resolve that problem.I never had any of the frequently talked of belt noise and never experienced stator failure but I never put more than 4500 miles on any of the four bikes. Please state year, mileage, and whether modifications may have caused the problem when responding.

I have a 2016 900 Custom, I just hit 1000 miles the other day, but so far everything has been perfect.

Mine don't count, but just bought a 2006 with 11k, and it already needed a stator, and a rear tire, the front tire is dry rotted but has acceptable tread for the remainder of this season. Everything else is original since new, and no other turns of screws other than the stator cover.

Question, any added on electrical? wondering why stators fail on these bikes. Did you do the replacement your self?

Now that was ready for replacement!!
The only problem I've had so far is with my work schedule and the weather here I can't get enough ride time in.
I have had 2 900 LT's so far. 2011 traded in November 2014 with 80,000 km. and now riding 2014 with 32,000 km so far no problems to report.
I wonder if the stator is a problem on the older bikes or the newer ones didnt hit the milage yet ?

Believe it is mainly on 06 07 900s ,even tho I had a 06 w 18k and no stator problem
seems to b a hit or miss:smile2:
My 08 is on it's third stator. First one went out around 22k and second around 50k. She's pushing 73k now. Got a spare on the shelf. Changing it out at 80k wither it needs it or not.

Wow,you are getting some good miles out of that bike.
I'm curious, have you adjusted the valves on the suggested interval?
Kinda late to reply here... haven't been too active in the Forum lately but I did do the initial 15k Valve check, and all were good, no adjustments needed. I wasn't sure if that meant we had to re-do it EVERY 15k, but it's been running so smooth with problems I didn't think it necessary to go back again. When they did have the heads of for the 15k valve check, I had them replace the plugs with Iridium plugs so they should be good for 100,000 miles ! Those plugs are almost halfway there no at 60,500 miles on the bike.

Just got it out of winter storage this past weekend, started up easily on the first push of the button. Would have taken it to work today but too much rain going on.
Only 2300 miles on my 2016 Custom so far but all is well.
2008 VN900LT - 86,050 Km (53,500 Mi.) Regular maintenance...consumable replacements (Oil & Filter, Air filter, Plugs, Brake pads, Tires, etc.). No issues running fine.
Problems? oh yea! It's been raining almost everyday. can't ride.:sidefrown:

I am at 27000 miles on my 2008 900 LT. The only thing I have needed to do is change the battery (please, don't leave your lights on accidently!), regular oil changes and I am on my 4th set of tires. Other than that, it has been a dream!

Good to hear.Enjoy the ride and thanks for posting.
I bought my 09 Vulcan Custom back in December with 3,000 miles on it. I purchased the bike and the BCB kit at the same time, converted it to a Bobber, since then I have logged just over 2,000 miles with zero issues so far. I have owned a 03 CBR954RR, 05 R1, Kawi 636, 07 Zx10, and a Harley Night Rod Special before owning this Vulcan, I can honestly say this is the most enjoyable bike I have ridden, love it.
Bought my 08 LT last year with about 4K miles on it. Now w/ 7K miles, no issues. Love this bike.
