OK, I'm looking for whitewalls for my Classic. The Metzeler 880 comes in the right size for the front, but the closest rear size is 170/80. I'm told that this will fit, but I don't really want to go more narrow than the stock tire. This tire would be a little narrower, right?

If anything, I'd like to go a little wider. The bike with the Avon 230 in another thread looks nice, but that's not available in whites. I'm pretty new to this whole thing, so I'm sure there are lots of avenues I haven't tried. I'm asking for your help.

I'll probably end up lowering the bike some this spring, and I'd like a tire that wouldn't require any cutting or removal of guards or fenders.

Thanks.

The 170/80 is 10mm (.4") narrower and 10mm (.4") taller than the 180/70. That's less than a 1/4" on a side- not noticed at all. For those who want to know, given a 170/80 tire, the 170 is the width at the widest part of the tread. The 80 part is the height of the tire - in this case 80% of the of the width. This is all in millimeters. to convert, multiply by .0393, or round that to .04. So said, a 180/70 is 7.2" wide and 5.04" tall, and the 170/80 is 6.8" wide and 5.44" tall. The "tall" part is measured from the rim. Given a 15" rim, the 170/80 is 25.88" in diameter, and the 180/70 is 25.08" in diameter.
Got it?

Got it. Thanks for the reply. I was checking Indian's website. and their bikes come stock with 150s on the rear. So I guess 170 will work fine.
