Hey guys, been having an issue with water getting in behind the speedometer somehow...it wasn't terrible before, but last night the bike got stuck outside in a downpour...my mode and reset buttons are now working intermittently, and there's a lot of condensation buildup behind the speedo glass now. Anybody ever take one apart to clean the inside section of the glass and reseal it?

Hi Crab,
  • I personally have never had one from this Y/M/M apart.
  • You should remove it and see how far the disassembly can be done with simple tools. A #1 and #2 Phillips and a small flat head screwdriver should do the trick.
  • Like a drowned cell phone you can place the disassembled meter in rice to help absorb moisture or pour some rubbing alcohol on it to displace the water and some canned air to dry.
  • You can sometimes find small desiccant bags or capsules inside aspirin bottles. If you can find one that fits inside the meter, put it in.

I guess the year of the bike would help, huh? 2006 classic. I'll have to bring some tools home from work with me. Hopefully I have something small enough. Looks like a hex bolt that holds the cover on. Think the beauty ring might need some sealant around it. Any suggestions?

  • Some clear exterior window or trim caulking would do the trick. This won't discolor or deteriorate over time
  • Put some in the corner of a thick baggie and squeeze it out through a small hole like a cake decorator bag to get a small bead.
