Thought you guys might like this. I found this pit bike shock on Amazon and decided to take a chance on it. It fits my 2017 and definitely works better than stock, though I don't have much time on it and haven't played around with the air pressure or spring preload.I had to drill out the top bushing, but otherwise it bolts right up. I got it for just over forty bucks and it's decent. No damping adjustments, but fully rebuild-able. Check it out.

I tried two more inflators from my neighbor...it took about 2 seconds to get it up over 100 psi (volume must be very small).
Disconnect lock air chuck, reconnect lock air chuck to check pressure...reading was around 30 psi
Guess just put in around 150 psi...remove the lock air chuck (will loose some pressure once disconnect) ...and hope some air will stay!

I weigh around 150 lbs....don't know if I really need to do this mod!
Sorry but can i ask you what weight you are? Also did you make any adjustments?
I'm about 175 lbs. I made no adjustments. Rides perfect as it came so felt no need to mess with anything. How they say that? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. lol
Ordered one and it should be arriving some time later this week; my current rear shock is no good anymore so I'll take it to a track day and see if it's any better.

Ok so after I installed this shock...

Okay, so I installed the shock this afternoon. The install was easy. I drilled out the top bushing and used some stainless steel thick washer as spacers to make up the difference in width. It actually stopped raining for today so when out and took a ride. I found the roughest road I could find to test out. Overall the ride on good roads is about the same. Shock still feels firm and not mushy. On the rough roads the bumps were nowhere near as harsh as the stock shock. For what little this shock cost, it is so much better than stock. Definitely worth the money and effort. View attachment 257086

The main thing to do is get the weight off the rear wheel. I used a pair of ratchet straps and hung my bike from the rafters of my shed. You can use a jack if you have one. Remove the two shock bolts. If you bought the same shock as i did you will have to drill the top bushing out to 12mm. Reinstall the new shock. Very simple process.

What exactly is "name brand" to you? Be more specific.
Seems they are out of stock again, maybe too many returns? For the price I want to try one. But this might work.

I ordered that one for $63 2-day's ago. And the price is already up to $73 .

Just not sure if I have what I need to do this install. Seems I will benefit from getting a small jack to lift bike from the middle and allow me to play with the rear wheel (up & down) to get that shock out.

Any more info or tips on this install (solo) will be appreciated.
looks like the shock @Tracks650 posted is a generic plenty of inexpensive options

searching "rear shock 325mm" on Amazon / Ebay will result in finding other gems to experiments with. For the cost, hard to say no to trying something out.

note: 325MM is 12 3/4 inches.
Guys, there is only a tiny volume of air in the shock. Using regular chucks and tire pressure gauges won't work. By the time you remove the chuck or the gauge, all of the air will have leaked out. I ended up ordering this one on Amazon for $120. Has dual 12mm eyelets so I ordered some 10 to 12mm bushings also. Ill do an install and performance writeup in my build log in sig.

I ended up ordering this one on Amazon for $120. Has dual 12mm eyelets so I ordered some 10 to 12mm bushings also. Ill do an install and performance writeup in my build log in sig.

Just a quick note about this shock I bought. I will write up a more detailed review of the install and its performance. But for now Ill just say I returned it and went back to stock. Was no where near more comfortable. Still might get a different one later, but for now stock shock at preload #3 is what Im using.

The travel on that shock looks to be shorter than what I have. It might also have a heavier spring rating.

Yeah that's probably why. For now I'll keep it stock. But I'll keep my eye out to see if the other one gets back in stock.
