I have my son's 2006 Vulcan 900 Classic which has . . . issues!! He had allowed it to sit unused in his yard with just a nylon cover (not waterproof) over it. It was left like that for 6+months. He gave it to me and it wouldn't start. I put a new battery in it but "no go". Upon further investigation, saw that there was only about a gallon of gas in it during that dormant period . . . so RUST!! I pulled the tank off, removed the fuel pump and level gauge float assembly . . . yep, MORE RUST. I've had the fuel tank cleaned and treated with a liner. I dissasembled the fuel pump as far as I could and cleaned all of the parts and wire connections. I brought it to a local Kaw dealer who tested it and said that he couldn't get the motor to even turn in the pump. So, am I now destined to drop the big bucks (which I don't really have to spare at this time), or are there some other options that I can consider to try to get this bike running again?
