Vulcan 500 Throttle Response (Delay?)

My son owns a Vulcan 500, (2004, I think) and I'm storing it for the winter.
I've been riding it occasionally to keep the battery up before putting away for good.

Anyway, the throttle response is WAY different than my ZRX1200. I'm talking about a delay of 1-2 seconds when turning the throttle up or down. Other than that it runs fine, starts easy, no stalling or backfiring. When shifting gears, I throttle down and if I don't wait a bit, the engine will be revving too high when pulling in the clutch.

Does that amount of hesitation sound normal? If not, any suggestions?
Thanks,

Loxmo,

Are you sure the choke is completly off? I know if I leave the choke 1/2 on, it has 3 positions, off, 1/2 on and full on, then I get the same kind of fast idling between gears. It could also be that the idle is set too high.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for the quick reply, I'm pretty sure it isn't a partial choke, as the idle does come down in a second or two. I'll double check tonight. The idle seems ok, but without a tachometer I can't be sure.

As mentioned, check the throttle cable for binding. It may need replacing since it's an 04. Run a heavy dose of Seafoam through the fuel system. One tank full usually cleans things up. If that doesn't work you need to dig deeper and check the carb synching or possibly split and clean the carbs.

Last night the following was checked.
1. Choke is completely off
2. Idle seems fine
3. Throttle cable seems fine (When released, it snaps back immediately)
When throttling up, it bogs down & hesitates before revving up, so it's probably something with the fuel or ignition.
Will dig deeper in the next few days. I'll get some seafoam flowing and look at the plugs.
I don't have a service manual, anybody have instructions on synching the carbs?
