I recently came into possession of a 2007 vulcan 900 custom. After my first long ride i get back home and before shutting it down, the electronics all cut out and just running lights stay on. after parking it in the garage i try restarting it and there is nothing at all. I looked and it blew both the ECU and the IGN fuses. I inspected the wiring for shorts and found none, i replaced the battery thinking that was the issue. After replacing the fuses and trying again, the ecu fuse blows as soon as i turn the key, the IGN fuse blows as soon as i turn the killswitch to on. My neighbor said that the bike fell over in his garage and caused a little damage, i was wondering if the position sensor could be causing the wires to short if it was laid down or if it resets after being set back up? im at a complete loss at this point.

1. How many miles on it?
2. Describe exactly what you did just before the fuses blew.
3. Any modifications...fuel processor, lights, etc?

It has just over 22000 miles on it, i was on my first longer ride just over 100 miles. When i pulled onto my street the electrical system flickered and only the sidelights stayed on but it was choking and sputtering as i pulled into my driveway. I turned everything off and turned it back on and tried cranking it again. It cranked for a second then blew a fuse. I inspected the wiring and didnt find any shorts or broken wires. I replaced the ECU and the IGN fuses. When i turned the key to the bike to on it immediately blew the ecu fuse, once i turned the killswitch to run it blew the IGN fuse.

I would doubt if it's the position sensor. More likely inclined to believe harness going to run switch got pinched/damaged somewhere in the fall, or even the switch itself. That's where I'd start looking.

2. Do you have a meter and know how to use it?

No meter, we can help there too.
Do not just start poking around for fear of losing the issue or adding another. Then the real tail chasing begins.

Yeah, i have just a cheap multimeter of my own. But i have a nicer one at work i can use if i need it.

This might cost you a few fuses to start.

1. Unplug ECU from main harness.
2. Key on, does ECU fuse still blow?

Nevermind, its not blowing any of the fuses with the ecu removed anymore. I believe it is just a bad ecu now.

Yes, i have access to one but it wont be for a few days. If your curious its a simpson meter im not sure on make or model of it.
