You see many people using the same tire but sometimes having vastly different wear rates on the tires.
I was thinking what different variables might cause this to occur. These from the obvious to not so obvious.
1. Air pressure
2. Riding style
3. Rider/passenger weight
4. Surfaces ridden on
5. Surface temperature etc....

What do you think affects the differences the most?

I think riding style affects wear the most with surfaces ridden on (rougher the surface the more wear) a close second.

If you ride it like you stole it you're naturally going to burn up some rubber much quicker than if you baby it. Also I think there is more wear when incorporating a lot of twisties compared to mainly straight up riding as twisties involve a lot more accelerating/decelerating as well as more pressures/demands on the tire.

Air pressure as the biggest factor, especially air pressure as it relates to load per tire and the heat generated. Incorrect air pressure per load affects how much heat the tire builds up, and more heat means more wear. Ask any tire manufacturer rep or engineer, technician, and I bet the 1st thing they'll mention for cycles, cars, trucks, trailers, is pressure as it relates to heat buildup.

Yes, riding style and riding environment is a factor, but air pressure and tire heat is the big factor. If all you do is straight up superslab riding then wear is primarily on the center of the tire and heat (with the right air pressure) is steady. If your riding is all mountain twisties with a lot of accel/decel and cornering it uses more of the tire and heat may fluctuate but still within a stable range.

Well, I was gonna pipe in with air pressure but @andyvh1959 beat me to it!

It is imperative to check tire pressure as part of a pre-ride checklist. It's also a good idea to check pressure mid-ride daily on long distance trips as well.
