Sadly the small independent shop where I would get my tires changed and Dyno runs done has gone belly up. That being said I don't feel like paying the price that the local dealer Wants. I don't have enough shop space to bolt down an upright changer but I do have a steel deck trailer where I could bolt it down when needed, Any recommendations that will still leave a little cash in the kids college fund :grin2:.
Looking at the Beadbuster XB455 and no mar 16" tire spoons ( from Dennis Kirk). I am old and about half broke down , and since I am missing some teeth I don't wanna bite off more than I can chew.:devil2:

i have the harbor freight tire changer w/ the mc attachment and several spoons and edge guards. not too bad to change stock size even w/ arthritic shoulder, but the wider mc2 can be a b###ch. i had to get an iron landscaping stake from home depot to replace the too thick center rod (it won't fit thru the bearings).

before the next change, i'm going to get a nomar yellow thing (https://www.amazon.com/No-Mar-AC-Y-03905111-Yellow-Thing-Tire/dp/B011J6KXR8/ref=sr_1_1?hvadid=78683854258721&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvqmt=e&keywords=no+mar+yellow+thing&qid=1556389854&s=gateway&sr=8-1) or something similar and melt a plastic milk jug over the end of the mount/demount bar to prevent damage to the rim better and easier.

setting the beads can be very tricky w/o the right tools. a blasting bead setter is prob best.

I think somebody sells a replacement reefing arm (not it's real name) - is it 'no Mar'? - that's supposed to work a lot better and leave no marks.

People bolt the Harbour freight unit to a sheet of plywood which can be removed for tighter storage situations. Considering that option myself.

No Mar may be more correct.

before i spend money on a nomar bar, i want to see if i can make the plastic softened and formed on the hf bar work. i have mine set up as you described on wood. no more often than i use it, it makes storage much easier and worth the extra effort to set up/put away.

A couple of tips to make your life easier. Use a thick piece of leather around your spoon handle, and as a rim protector. Saddle leather grade.

To seat the bead, use a tie-down strap around the outside to squeeze the beads out onto the rim shoulders, air up the tire with the blowgun with the needle removed. If it still doesn't seat, use a clean damp rag moistened with a little dish soap to wipe down the interior rim shoulders. Works equally well for ATV & UTV tires.

When finagling the tire during the removal process, pinch the old tire by using zip-ties to squeeze the opposite side together, giving you more working room.

I use the Harbor Freight bead buster to start the process; just scored a Tusk Adjustable Height Tire Changing Stand to get off the piece of plywood on the driveway. These joints just aren't as accommodative as they once were!
