U.S. reverses stance on treaty to regulate arms trade

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States reversed policy on Wednesday and
said it would back launching talks on a treaty to regulate arms sales as
long as the talks operated by consensus, a stance critics said gave every
nation a veto.

The decision, announced in a statement released by the U.S. State
Department, overturns the position of former President George W. Bush's
administration, which had opposed such a treaty on the grounds that national
controls were better.

On Wednesday Obama Took the First Major Step in a Plan to Ban All Firearms
in the United States . The Obama administration intends to force gun control
and a complete ban on all weapons for US citizens through the signing of
international treaties with foreign nations. By signing international
treaties on gun control, the Obama administration can use the US State
Department to bypass the normal legislative process in Congress. Once the US
Government signs these international treaties, all US citizens will be
subject to those gun laws created by foreign governments. These are laws
that have been developed and promoted by organizations such as the United
Nations and individuals such as George Soros and Michael Bloomberg. The laws
are designed and intended to lead to the complete ban and confiscation of
all firearms.

The Obama administration is attempting to use tactics and methods of gun
control that will inflict major damage to our 2nd Amendment before US
citizens even understand what has happened. Obama can appear before the
public and tell them that he does not intend to pursue any legislation (in
the United States ) that will lead to new gun control laws, while cloaked in
secrecy, his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is committing the US to
international treaties and foreign gun control laws. Does that mean Obama is
telling the truth? What it means is that there will be no publicized gun
control debates in the media or votes in Congress. We will wake up one
morning and find that the United States has signed a treaty that prohibits
firearm and ammunition manufacturers from selling to the public. We will
wake up another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that
prohibits any transfer of firearm ownership. And then, we will wake up yet
another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that requires US
citizens to deliver any firearm they own to the local government collection
and destruction center or face imprisonment.

This is not a joke nor a false warning. As sure as government health care
will be forced on us by the Obama administration through whatever means
necessary, so will gun control.

Please forward this message to others who may be concerned about the
direction in which our country is headed.

We are being led like a lamb to the slaughter (Socialism/Dictatorship

Well yeah, except that Obama can't unilaterally sign international treaties that become Federal law without a supermajority approval in the Senate.

U.S. Constitution Article 2, Section 2, Clause 2:

"He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; ..."

In the past presidents have used it to sign treaties without the consent of the Senate but in those cases the treaty doesn't become Federal law and the treaty effectively expires as soon as that president leaves office.

The morons we have in office now can't agree on ANYthing so I don't see how they'll get a 2/3rds vote on ratifying that garbage. Just won't happen in any realistic scenario. Now, in one of those crazy doomsday scenarios that the gun lobby paints then it's probably already happened.

As for me, my safe is full, my ammo is stocked, and my reloading bench is supplied. Bring it. ;)

Ya know; it isn't this particular gun control measure that worries me. Neither does this particular Health care bill (it will be struck down).

It's the apathy that results from watching the fight.
In a few years many Americans are going to say "another disagreement on firearms, I thought they had that figured out already; I am tired of listening to it". There will be another compromise somewhere in the middle of the debate, and ipso facto; we lose a little more freedoms that are supposedly guaranteed!

I think you're right on it, Scott. Desensitize the masses. I pity the unbelievers . . .

This stuff happens all the time. Case in point: TSA. What a freaking joke. No more than 3oz of liquid per container; take your shoes off; xray nudie machines; groping little kids; making old ladies in wheelchairs strip; breast cancer survivors have to remove their prosthetics.

No offense guys but I have a hard time believing anyone will do anything when sh*t like this goes on and the steeple happily go along with it.

Who's gonna go first? Knowing that the FBI and NSA have warrantless wiretaps and domestic spy authority from both W. AND Obama..... Which one of you feels capable enough to throw the first stone? Talking about armed revolution is just talk and fear-mongering.

If you're that certain that the end is nigh then start something or do something that we can all get behind or join the NRA, GOA, or the 2nd Amendment foundation and support them.

Ride safe. Wear your seatbelt. ;)

just remember, the only gun grab that ever occurred in the"united states of fascism" was under Geo W Bush,Obama has done more to promote gun ownership than practically any other president so i wouldnt worry too much, besides that story has a fox news stink to it so i would be wary of its credibility!

Entire countries are not capable enough to throw the first stone. Calling on some Motorcycleing Enthusiasts to do this is unreasonable. If this comment is meant as 'put up or shut up'; I will respectfully decline to do either!

Talking about armed revolution was a different thread (we also discussed who would have to lead 'throw the first stone' in that thread). This thread is about threats to gun ownership.

The treaty in question has absolutely nothing to do with the gun control or prohibitions against buying, selling or owning a firearm in the US. The treaty deals with exporting small arms by the nations involved in the treaty. The US has not signed this treaty because it hasn't even been drafted yet.

There is absolutely no way around the 2nd amendment in this country without another amendment to the constitution, and that folks, ain't NEVER gonna happen.

Ride on.

That's what I'm banking on. I suspect that the NRA would have a commerical on TV every other minute were this a real threat to gun ownership.

Yeah, right. Be sure to tell that to the folks living in CA, IL, NJ, NY, DC, and a whole host of other states and localities, including the fine state of Texas, all of which seem utterly incapable of understanding what is probably the most self-explanatory Amendment to this great Constitution of ours.

To wit: A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed (bolding and underlining added).

Along those same lines, congratulations to my neighbors to the north in OK for getting one step closer to true Constitutional carry.

I could use one of those with the kids round here, where can I get one?
Or can I just pin em to the ground shoot em with the garden hose?
No bullets or shell casings for evidence. Hmm?

So what if I invent a high pressure small discharge weapon that anybody could carry and use for self defense. When aimed at close range it could project a small amount of super high pressure water directly into yor assailant and render a mitey awful pain that should divert thier attention away from you..
Super hard Frozen water bullets are always fun, but require liq nitrogen carry case tends to leave freezer burns..
I used to dream of perfecting a less painful water projectile gun, something that would shoot about a 50 caliber water gob at the cats (mine) who used to sleep on the platform bird feeder (also mine.) Never got off my butt and did it, though.

... Obama has done more to promote gun ownership than practically any other president ...
i dont think his FAST n FURIOUS program really qualifies at gun ownership... well accept to the criminal cartels they fed those weapons to.
I think the common comment about Obama promoting gun ownership has to do with the widespread reaction of buying guns by people who were afraid he'd find some way to further restrict ownership. I've got several new ones myself!

Here's the pi$$er: Democrats used to be the working man's friend. Working men - at least many of them - hunt and have guns. I have no idea how we got where we are now.

If you want to know how the free market is supposed to work, google Adam Smith quotes. He wrote The Wealth of Nations, the foundation document laying out the importance of a free market in progress and prosperity. And if you read his quotes you will see that today's Republicans are as far from supporting a free market as today's Democrats are. Maybe farther. And in it all the working people get poorer and poorer, leaving them with less money to spend which would create a healthy economy.
