i purchased a o.e.m. tach from kawasaki for my 2012 vulcan 900 classic and after install according to directions it lights up,cycles at ignition but does not move after start up.

the is a member on here with the handle of sfair ..... he is the resident tech guru, pm and him and Im sure he will be able to help you out.

Oops, forgot that your tach may require a single fire adapter if it cannot accept same.
Did you have to use one?

If it needed a single fire adaptor but you don't have one then the revs should indicate twice as fast (or is that half as fast??) but should still work. If the needle doesn't move at all then either the wiring is not correct or the unit is indeed a dud.

The cobra tacho doesn't need an adaptor & here are the instructions which might help in your case.

I installed the OEM tach. There are no adapters needed. It sounds like you connected power properly (lights up, cycles). I can only think of 3 things:

You connected the tach wire to the wrong coil wire
The wire from the coil back to the tach has a break in it
The tach is defective

There is really not more to it. The tach wire connects to the coil and the original coil wire attaches to the piggyback connection.
