Performance increase will only be slight w/o adding intake/fuelpak along with them. Your gas mileage shouldn't be affected unless you keep getting on it to listen to the sound of the pipes. Under normal driving there shouldn't be much difference at all.

Straight pipes? With or with-out a Baffle?

Will adding straight pipes from Cobra or V&H improve performace much by themselves? How will they affect gas mileage, better or worse?

Aftermarket pipes can improve your performance, but it based on what pipes you put on. If take out the baffles you will lose power in the low to mid range of riding. (Loss of torque) If leave in the baffles you will get better performance in the low to mid range of riding. (Gain of torque) As far as gas mileage it’s trade off of what you want performance or mileage? To get the best performance out your bike changing the air-flow of the motor will do it! You will need an air-filter system (optional), Exhaust, and fuel controller. With this change you could see 10 to 20hp and a gain in torque (what you feel in the seat) of 10 to 15 Foot/pounds. If you are looking for mileage don’t change a thing, the bike comes from the factory set-up for the best mileage, not performance.
