I have a 1998 Vulcan Classic 1500 that I am going to replace the plugs on. Currently it has NGK DPR5EA-9 but the manual is calling for NGK DPR7EA-9. The bike only has 6000 miles on it and the previous owner told me he never changed them.

So what is the best/correct spark plug to use? I'm also wondering why 5's were put in when it was purchased.

Thanks!

quick think: higher/lower altitude, just a guess, previous owner wanted that for some such reason. or from personal experience 'the shop was out of the correct one so they put in what they had.' it happens

I know that back when I was a much younger rider that the "original" plugs would be a colder fire plug to allow for break in. But that was in the early 70's so take it with a Senna ;> )
