Hi guys, I realize this topic has been discussed many times and many places. But since the bevel gear bearing issue has been around for 20 years now, it's still relevant. I just picked up a 2002 Mean Streak 1500 and need to do this same job, 31,000 miles. You can hear the bevel gears howl/whine when you let off the gas and coast, especially without clutching. I have read many of the other threads with great info provided. Also have watched several good videos on the fixing process.

Does anyone have an update on the actual root cause of the bearing failure? I plan to replace it with a factory bearing (Kawi # 92045-1165 or SKF6305C2), but I'd love to hear if anyone has an actual fix for the problem. Anything else to check for while I'm in there, maybe a blocked oil line or something? Or does anyone have a garage fix like installing an extra "oil splasher" that might help the bearing live a longer life? Thanks all in advance.
