I am new to the cycle world, this is my first bike. I took it in for its 600 mile service on Friday. After i paid my $253 they told me that my next service is not until 4K. I was looking at other post and from reading here that does not sound right or am I mistaken.

I have gotten good advise just from reading the post here in the forums and believe you guys know what you are talking about so any point in the right direction will help. Thanks.

I would do an oil change at every 4000 miles, but the next scheduled service would be 7500 then 15000. Don't let them take more of your money than necessary. Purchase the shop manual and try to do most of the small things yourself. Just keep good records of what you do and mileage, wont affect warranty if you do it as long as you keep track of it.

I really hate to point this out, but $253 for the 600 mile check? Mine cost me $125 and included belt adjust, slight clutch adjust, and oil/filter, along with a general checking of a few fasteners. Here's my advice:

Learn to do your own oil changes. It ain't hard to do. There's not a whole lot to go over on the 900 that you can't do yourself. I don't know if I go along with Rich on the 4000 mile oil change if you're running dino oil. With synthetic it's OK. Might even go a little longer.
The last time I took mine to the dealer was for the first checkup only (currently about 8000 miles). The next time he sees it will be at 15K for the valve clearance check.

My first service will be done this Thursday. The dealer won't see it again.

My first service was $135 which included the small stuff (that was in March and I just did a 4000 mile oil change:eek:). I'm doing as much as I can myself from here on out. There's a complete service manual available on CD on on eBay for about $5.00 which I bought and loaded into my laptop. The owner's manual will list all of what you have to do and and the service manual spells it out on how to do it and then some:cool:.
