I have a utopia backrest on my seat now. Im thinking of getting the day long seat. Will I be able to use my existing backrest? Thanks.

Russell's can answer better, but I don't think any other backrest will work with a Day-Long except theirs.
I called and my utopia backrest will work with it. I have a late March production date scheduled.
You will lide the Day-long

I had my Daylong built last year and have 12K miles on it with some trips over 3K miles. The seat is truly built for all day riding. I had the Grasshopper backrest before I had the seat built, and it bolted right back on in the same place. It even looks good with the Daylong.

I hope you saw the Sunbrella material they offer. I had that material put on my Voyager seat and I love it. It doesn't trap the heat like vinyl, and breaths a bit more than leather. A little harder to keep clean but it really adds to the comfort of the seat.

Best of luck with your new seat.

Can you share a photo of the material used? My first reaction was that vinyl would be better, but reading your message has me thinking.
For me... The RDL backrest was kind of a waste of money. The new seat puts me in the right position to run till the tank is empty. No way I could do that on kaw seat. As a result I have only used the backrest a couple of times.
Stoutman did you get the rain covers?
I hope you got a brown seat with orange stitching? :D
This is a previous post I did with pictures

I got the color that most closely matched my bike. I bought the rain cover, but have I never used it. It is sitting in the saddle bag with my rain gear, which I have used. The material is water resistant and when I have ridden in the rain I have never had issues besides cleaning up the bike afterward. I stopped for coffee to let the rain fade a bit and never put the cover on. I found that my rain gear would keep my backside as dry when I got back on, and the seat didn't absorb any water to speak of.
