Most aftermarket lightbars use 20w or 35w halogen bulbs. The main trick is that the stator on the bike is only rated for an additional 70w of load. So if you have any other add-ons that use power, you have to add up all the watts to see what you can stand. I unfortunately added 140w a couple years back and toasted my stator over about a year. Just because the lights work does not mean that you are not overheating your stator and in the long run will probably have to replace it if you add to much load.
As for building one, I can't really help much there. I did the Wally World lightbar thing at one time. But that is just a matter of clamping a couple lights to the little chrome bar that runs under the headlamp on the Classic. In your case, you may be able to make a couple brackets that attach where the turn signals are located.
Thanks for the info. I've been talking with a couple of companies about re-winding a stator for a higher output. I'm going to be using my 900 for touring the country and eventually the world so power seems to keep coming to the top as an issue I'm going to have to address.
I have the a stock 12' head light in v900 classic.
What is the next legal, but better HEADlight bulb upgrade ( just the camry verson, not the ferrari version) thats great for during the day or night?
Also, is the labor hard, what does it intail?
thanks to all!
I have a Clymers manual but the only adjustment covered is the free-play gap of the clutch lever itself. I did that.
The way my clutch works, when I'm starting from a dead stop, I have to release the clutch lever almost all the way out for the clutch to begin engaging (friction)...
I had to make an emergency stop the other day on my 900 (accident avoided), but encountered something unusual. When I pulled in the clutch lever and applied the front brake simultanously, the throttle seemed to freeze with the engine revved up (to around 3-4K) as I braked to a stop. I had just...
So with a look into the pipes on my '08 it looks like the previous owner removed the outer or last baffle. So if that's the case should I also mod the air filter / air box to kind of balance it out? Does K&N make a filter for the VN900?
