pipes / mileage

I have been putting off getting pipes on my 17 classic. I am going tomorrow
to pick out a set. I really want to "rumble it up" a little but really really don't want to sacrafice fuel mileage. I'm not worried about the pennies per tank but don't want to be they guy we always have to stop because they need to get gas. Does anybody have any input good or bad about this mod? we do a couple of pretty good rides per year and sometimes 150miles ain't enough between tanks.

Thanks

I dont think any will make a lot of difference in MPG if the intake side is 100% stock. Beyond that, Freedom Performance true duals and 2-1 are bothvery good. Have heard the V&H 2-1 is good for performance, but quality has been questionable on some pipes. FP are a bit pricy but worth it.

You Know the sound You will want to hear will sacrifice some of the mileage as You will be making them bark more often. LOL

Added some sound for Ya Man. This don't hurt mileage. LOL

My freedom true duals do sound good don't they Rick!!
V&H Big Shot

I have these on my 1700 classic. Good sound and I'm getting 38 mpg. Road from Central Iowa to Sturgis and only had to stop every 200 miles for gas.

Followed him 150 miles or so last summer when I was up his way. Nice low rumble, and never thought they were loud, if they werent out of my budget, for now, I'd have them on mine.

Don't know if my mileage decreased when I put on my tri-ovals but ironically enough I noticed a mileage increase when I upgraded to the stock fit K&N air filter!
power pro 2 into 1
better power and better fuel economy made a big difference to power
i too would have the true duels if i had the choice at the time though
I have the V&H slip ons, KN filter and an EJK fuel processor on my Vaquero. Got 43 mpg the other day averaging a 55mph speed. Should not affect your MPG at all.

You are putting in 5.26 gallons at each fuel stop. That is cutting it too close for me.

Not to mention the lack of cooling for the fuel pump.
Hey shep, thanks for the link with the video. Most of these type of posts just have a bike setting at idle getting racked up. Your clip was more informative since I could hear the idle accel and decel. With a little help from a friend I am going to try to do the same to post later. It is the only way you can get any indication of what they sound like while riding. That's why we are here, right? Racking it up at intersections obviously works for some due to the amount of vtwins with gutted pipes I hear. It's what we refer to the bood'n boodi'n syndrome.
Thanks again,
Jimmy D

You are welcome.
My motto is ride it like you stole it!
I have the V&H pro 2-1 and wish I got the FP 2-1 but I have the
EJK and Thunder air kit and I average 29-41 mpg.. the hell with it I'm getting the FP 2-1.
