Has anyone switched to a Genuine Kawasaki Classic Gel Seat from the original?

If so, how does is compare to stock and is it worth purchasing?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I've got the Kaw flame gel, and now I have two seats I don't like. With the OEM I had to stop every hours. With the gel the first stop is 2 hours, but from then on it's every hour. Eating a handfull of Motrin before and during riding helps but after a while it gets rough on the stomach.

There are many threads on this forum dealing with seats. Below is a link to one I started over a year ago.

The general consensus is, don't waste your money on the Kawi Gel seat. There is a small piece of gel about 8"wide x 10" long in the middle of the seat and that is all. The sides where your butt rides are just as horrible as the stock seat. Below is what most folks are saying about seat options.

1- If you have lots of money, get a Day Long or some other custom made seat specifically designed for your butt & riding style. You can't beat the way these ride.

2- If you have less money, get a Mustang or Saddlemen seat. The Mustang tends to sit you a bit taller and farther forward in relation to the handle bars. The Saddlemen sits you a bit lower than the stock seat but at about the same spot forward & backwards. I have ridden both and chose the Saddlemen for my bike. But seats are really a subjective decision. www.denniskirk.com generally has the best prices and a killer return policy that will allow you to try one out and return it for almost nothing if you decide to get another one.

3- The link below is a guy who modifies your stock seat with a special honeycomb material. I have actually heard great things about this guy and you can't beat his pricing.
Spencers at www.greatdaytoride.com

Hope this helps.

I really appreciate the link and your evaluation of the seating position of various seats, that helps a lot! The 900 seat upgrade is for my wife's bike and I was afraid the Kawa gel seat wouldn't pass the test. I'll save our (I mean her) money and spring for something better.

I've used Mustang before and run a Corbin on my Nomad now and both are excellent seats. I tried Spencers upgrade on my Concours and have absolutely no complaints at all, it was quite an improvment over stock.

Thanks again for the info...much appreciated,

gel seat kudos

I bought the Kawi gel seat when I bought my bike for $259 in 08. It is the only seat that I have ridden with so I have no comparison. I will say that I put over 400 mils on it last weekend and it works out okay for me. Maybe I just have a tough arse. Also you get what you pay for.
