Nomad OEM Windshield - Quick Release?

2563 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  WEG
Hi all,

Has anyone ever managed to convert the Nomad OEM windshield to a quick release, by changing and/or adding any additional mechanisms?

Would love to hear how you did it?

Thanks,
Chris.

I added the Kawasaki quick release to my '09 Nomad. Quality product. Loved not having the shield for local riding.

Thanks for the part number WEG, and yes - TWA - that's exactly what I'm trying to achieve for local jaunts! This part isn't listed in the UK, so I'll check with my dealer first to see if it's just a well kept secret, or whether I have to order from the states.
Quick Release

Thnx WEG for the info. It's something I've been considering also. Chris I did a Google search and came up with this list of suppliers. Not sure what the shipping cost will be for you though.

The only concern I have is that the write up on the quick release says "Note: height adjustment is not offered with this kit. KQR windshield height is same as tallest stock height." WEG & TWA have you found that to be true with the kit you have?

Hi Nomad2010;

Yes, the KQR is not adjustable like the fixed windshield. Mine is stock height wise but I don't usually ride at night on the rain. Expect folks cut them down to fit their own requirements for height if necessary.

It certainly is easy to remove and replace and has a locking mechanism that keeps the honest people honest. Hardware is excellent quality, looks pretty good and of course fits perfectly.

So with this shield, quick release bags, and maybe. KQR sissybar, you can have a naked bike go to tourer or bagger in seconds if that's your thing.

Shipping to the UK is being offered at $65, and then there's import duty to add which is all based on size, weight and value! I've got the exchange rate on my side, but it's still not a cheap item!

Thankfully my windshield is at full height anyway as I'm quite tall, so the non-adjustment isn't an issue.

Thanks again for the input guys!
Hi Chris;

Yes, that becomes quite pricey for you in the UK. It's pricey for us to begin with!

You might look to see if National Cycle is sold in the UK. I had an aftermarket quick release of theirs on a Suzuki C50 a few years ago that worked well.

Good luck with the search.
