Will someone please explain to me why the stock air filter is on the left side, yet when you replace it with an aftermarket air intake, that goes on the right side???, or am i confusing this issue with the other 1700's....thanks...ride on...

I can't tell you why, but the intake is really on the right hand side. The air enters through the left side, then crosses through the cylinders, then into the throttle body on the right side of the engine. The aftermarket kit gets rid of the needless crap from the left hand side, making the engine breathe better.

As to why they place the stock air cleaner on the left side is beyond me, but every Kawasaki I've owned is like that. I assume the aftermarket ones go on the right side directly on the intake because that's where they should have been placed to begin with....way less restriction of air flow. I imagine someone will chime in as to the reason behind stock placement
