So due to cold weather and an emergency trip to Florida I hadn't been able to ride my bike for a month. I got on it yesterday and took a short ride... Everything went well until the last half mile on the way home. Everytime I accelerate my temp light would come on and the bike would backfire. I babied it home and figured maybe I had gotten some condensate in the tank. Not sure but it was running fine 4 weeks ago and I've never had any problems with it. Any ideas?

32000 miles
I've owned it for about 5 months.
It has run flawlessly until this last weekend.
I have done no work to it other than change the oil and I bled the clutch.
It now happens Everytime I ride it but only after it has warmed up.

1. Does the temp light come on every time it acts up?
2. Does it do it only on acceleration?
3. Does it do it engine hot/cold/both?
4. Does it do it in any gear?
5. Idle still ok?
6. Part throttle cruise ok?
7. Starting hot/cold ok?
8. Any other issue, no matter how unrelated?
9. Any recent repairs?

Sounds like a loose or bared wire somewhere. My old 1600 had a couple of wires rubbed bare going around the battery box to the ECU and it took me a lot of looking to find it but I understand that several others had the same problem. Look for tight turns and sharp corners. Also look in the headlight bucket and make sure all connections are secure. Hope you find it!

1. What does the overtemp light do, EXACTLY, when this happens?
2. Does your ignitor have a yellow/white wire going to it?
