I had felt cramped with original seat and wanted more legroom (my inseam is 34 inches). I tried a few cushions on top of original seat with no success.

I went to my local auto upholstery shop in Mechanicsville Virginia (Newcomb's Auto Upholstery) with a duplicate seat and he raised the seat 2.5 inches with additional foam. Per my instruction I asked for max amount of additional foam.

You can see far left photo below with new raised seat, middle photo is original seat and right photo is old and new side by side.

Appearance of new raised seat is slightly bulky but added comfort is greatly improved, adds a couple of hours to my cruise time.

I am very happy with the creature comfort modification.

you would have been better off increasing the reach by 2” and leaving the height alone/or replacing stock foam with higher density foam.

If you raise a seat up only it puts more pressure on your tailbone/quads-leading to a more cramped position and sciatica pain.

Not to mention decreases the overall surface area leading to pressure points.

I am always curious as to how best improve seating.

The upholster did use a high density foam, he had me try a few different types/ densities before starting job.
I am not sure how you would increase reach by 2" on the Vulcan 900 model without raising the seat level given the deep curve design of the stock seat.
The added seat height allows me to shift by butt forward or backward in the seat comfortably. My bike has floor boards which allow more space to change leg positions. This also helps in ride comfort.

If you have a picture of how reach can be increased as you described I would like to see it.

Thanks for your help

I actually have more aftermarket support, as I have gone native; HD that is. For starters Mustang/Corbin/LePera/saddleman etc. all sell a version of their seats with the seat set back to accommodate taller riders. Depending on design, you are probably limited by your stock seat pan.

Looks like Necomb's did some good work.
Sending a virtual wave from Chester.
If you cross paths while out and about with a rider wearing a white full face cover on a green 900 Custom I'll be sure to send a real wave. 😁
