Welcome from south Texas. The 9 is a great bike.
Welcome, i too had the same decision a few years ago, moving from a honda750. The vstar is air cooled, and sits a little lower to the ground, in fact many people complain in reviews that the pegs scrape the ground all the time. That has never happened to me for two years on my 9. Also it's liquid cooled, which is noticable in the summers, and i believe prolongs engine life too. I think you'll be pleased with the 9 if you can get a good deal on one, and they are out there....ride on....
Welcome. I got the 900 Custom because it is my first bike and I had read numerous positive reviews about it's ease of handling and great riding dynamics etc. Good luck.
Thanks for the info. I had heard about the pegs scraping but wasn't sure if it was due to the style of riding or design of the bike. I am only 5'6" so seat height is a factor. I have sat on both bikes and feel comfortable with both. Have not ridden either but will before making a decision. Right now I am leaning toward the 9.
I'm only 5'6" and I love my 900 classic. It is my first bike. I never scrape the floorboards. My feet touch the ground with the factory seat.

Welcome aboard JD. Hit me up if You are interested.
Bought this on new in 10. Taught The son to ride. He is not a biker at heart like His Dad. I have riden it every 2-3 weeks during the season. I have 9 grand in it, but don't need the bike. It is begging for a rider.
I will let it go for 4500. Only has 650 miles on it. This is a great bike.
