I had a 900 that I did love, but always wished there was more power. So I got a 04 Vulcan 1600 Classic. ?. Any helpful advice/tricks anyone wants to throw in feel free but I'll be doing some reading through the forum. Thanks

Congrats on the new bike! I just did the same thing, except from a 2005 V800B to a 2016 Vaquero :D

Ride safe!

first thing I did was get rid of the crappy intake system. you get a 9" car air filter and put it on the right side then scrap the left side and the intake tube completely.

Congrats on being a fellow 1600 Classic rider !!!

I guess I went a bit of a different route thinking about protecting my bike if I knocked it over...been there done that, actually a coworker backed into my old Yamaha 850 Special and knocked it off the center stand...

I bought a set of Cobra highway bars...
Thought about the "Fatty" bars but due to the larger diameter if I ever wanted to bolt anything to them ie: lights, horns, or highway pegs it would be heck trying to find any clamps to fit them...

The Lindbys looked good with pegs built in but found in reviews that they don't hold up in a tip-over situation...
One dude said his folded up like a wet noodle !!!
I guess with the additional welds and the design they just aren't as strong...

BTW, "most" of the 1500 accessories will fit, at least the bolt-on stuff...
Both Cobra and Vance and Hines say the 1500 pipes won't work, but no details as to why or why not so I gutted my stock mufflers per the Gadget website directions and they sound very good now with a cool burble or mean growl on decel...
The seats are not interchangeable either...the frame is different.

Go to the Gadget's Fixit Page - Home website and you can learn a lot about your new scoot, although it is a bit dated in the links to other sites, most don't work...
As for oil, I have found that Valvoline 4T 10w-40 works very well, shifts like butter and can be bought at Wallyworld for convenience...
My bike seems to chew up oil at about the 2000 mile mark anyway so I change it when it starts shifting stiffer...
I use a Purolator Pure One PL14610 filter that can be had a Kmart or Advance Auto...

Ride On !!!

Welcome, Jablz33. Good luck with your Vulcan 1600 Classic...I'm sure you will love it. I got a 07 Vulcan 1600 Classic September '15. Additions are a Cobra light bar...this really helps to be seen and lights up the road for night riding; Flander's handle bars (stock ones were just a little bit wide for me), Cobra Fatty Highway Bars (these are 1.5" diameter and look good on the bike, agree to watch that size if you want to mount anything on them) Kuryakyn foot pegs (had to get the 1.5" clevis mounts, which they had) ; Wompus custom rack (wompusracks.com, a great guy to work with to make a rack fit your ride); K&N air filter.

The bike came with an OEM windshield (20"); Cobra exhaust pipes; Power Commander III USB; Saddleman Drifter Bags, OEM Sissy Bar.

Had the bike Dyna-tuned and that made a big difference in performance, too.

Would like to convert to LED lights all around...if anyone has any tips on that, would like to hear all about that.

Ride on, Jablze33. If you ever come out West, do look me up.

Hay guys. Luke From Elizabeth City NC. I won't going to crash someone else's thread but just got a 06 1600 like the gentleman that started the thread but seen you got the tune. I'm looking to do a few mods to up the power if it really does add torque or HP but seen your post and was wondering if like mentioned the aftermarket stuff is really worth the dime or not. You guys have owned them, picking up the bike next week so Bran new to these cruisers.

thanks.
