So this is my second Vulcan. The bike was stolen from the PO and vandalized. All of the lights were removed except the left front turn signal. The other turn signals had the wires cut and were broken off. The tail light had the wires cut and removed. It was in the original red and white paint when it was stolen. Guy that stole it plasti dipped the entire bike. Didn't tape off anything so there are black flecks on most of the chrome. Left side cover is missing. I have the right side but the piece the lock catches on is missing. Wires for the neutral light have been cut. The PO had the motor checked after he recovered it and the valves adjusted. Bike runs great but is ugly. I got a really good price on it and brought it home. Already has new brakes on the rear and new pads for the front were also included. New grips were also included. I replaced those first since the throttle side was in bad shape. Next I put the tail light back on. This is where I have hit my first problem. Tail light comes on but brake light does not. I am guessing it is in my connection under the seat. Gonna have a beer or two while I think on it tonight. I feel like the bike is worth what I paid for it and I'm going to enjoy this little project.

Brake light works now. It was in the connection under the seat. Next getting the rear brake switch hooked up. Can someone tell me where it connects please. The wires were cut about 4 inches from the switch.

So now I need a little help with the kickstand spring. There is a piece welded to the frame that points toward the rear of the bike. The end of it looks similar to where the spring attaches on the kickstand. I assumed this is where the top of the spring attached. I tried that and when I raise the stand it pops off. What am I doing wrong?

There was not a spring on the kickstand when I bought it so I ordered a new one. One the stand itself is the obvious spot for one end of the spring to attach. I thought the piece welded to the frame above where the kickstand bolts on is where the other end of the spring attaches. I can raise the stand, hook the spring onto the stand itself and as I lower the stand hold the other end on the piece that is above the mount. Spring stays on with the stand down but as I raise the stand the spring slips off the piece on the frame.

i'm posting two pics, a before and after.

Got my bike from a buddy. it has sat outside for about a year and a half.
came without the factory turn signals, had aftermarket ones and they were small and crappy.
I bought a regular vulcan rear fender, tail light, rear supports and factory tail lights from a person who went with the bobber look. (paid $70, good deal!)

I'm an electrician, and i have the wiring schematic for these bikes.
not sure why someone would just cut up the wiring, but then again this is a theft bike, and criminals are not usually that intelligent.

The Vulcan 800 is a good bike. you should be able to find any parts you need.
I looked for different front directional, and ended up with NOS pieces from ebay. Think they were 30-35 each from two different people, so about 80 for the set plug and play. (Kawasaki want 90 for each side).

pix are for inspiration :)

Good looking bike Brewster! Appreciate the inspiration. I haven't decided on a color for this bike. I kind of like the flat black look.

Making the bike into a rat bike would not be a bad idea. I think they look really cool. Like it better than the bobber look. I wont do it to my bike yet, i got too good of a deal on it and it and the paint and the rest of the bike is spotless. The best i can do on a picture is the link to my facebook photo for now.
