Riding along going slow around a corner, I hear a gawd awful noise. Like the sound of a zip tie closing really fast as I rode. I stopped and looked if something like a stick got stuck, didn't see anything. Rode on and no more noise.

Been riding for a couple weeks and just noticed the belt has a scar on it.

the manual doesn't list that as a damage requiring a belt replacement, but somebody here with experience in belts can advice you based on the pictures.

what do you think happened?

*the new belts are not as wide as yours, were you trying to cut it for less friction? :)

I think your right, it still has a lot of miles left in it.

I just cant believe paying almost $400 for a belt.

I have read that used belts are not bad to use, have seen some for sale on ebay

It doesn't look like the belt is damaged enough so that failure is imminent. If there isn't any further damage it looks like it will last for a lot longer. But suggest that you make certain that there isn't a foreign object in the belt guard or a sharp edge which is causing the problem.
