What do you want to tell us ?


The correct rear Michelin Commander 2 tire size for the 1700 will be 180 / 65 / R16

Have them on mine together with the front Commander 2 tire and in my opinion one of the best tires.
Some people love them, some hate them, especially in the rain, but all depends on the rider, the feeling, the asphalt/tarmarq mixture and personal riding skills.

What am I trying to share? That when it comes to non-spec'd tires, for our bikes, it's caveat emptor/buyer beware, especially with Michelin.

Scrape the 'net and there's more than a few riders with front end shake when running a CII up front. Does my bike track and handle well with these shoes? Sure does, until I release the grip on my handlebars. That's disquieting and my situation is not unique.

Michelin makes it very clear that they DO NOT market a tire for our bikes in any way shape or form. The link to the fitment guide confirms that.

Have my CII's performed well when solely looking at wear/mileage? Yes. Is head shake normal behaviour? NO.

I'm only trying to be helpful because there's more than one rider out there dropping money on head bearing replacement when they get the shake. Spending money chasing demons.

By all means, the CII is a good wearing tire. Just be prepared for shake and Michelin saying "not our problem". In a personal email to me Michelin Corporate stated that "the tire did not perform well during testing on this motorcycle, as such it is not listed in our fitment guide".

My Voyager was fantastic with a CII on the back and stock on the front. Set the cruise and take both hands off the bars and the bike was rock solid. Any speed. You don't want to do the same with a CII on the front. It'll wake anyone up real quick. And if it's going to shake in this situation, what other time may the bike go a little nuts? That's what's in the back of my mind. My front CII is gone the second I replace the rear, I've got about 5000km to go.

I have a theory and it's like free advice. Worth nothing.

The CII is a dual compound tire. Maybe the hard compound area is a little narrow on the front vs the rear. Our bikes are heavy and I would think the front end is fairly loaded. Is it possible that the contact patch is larger than the hard compound area?

Hmm, I think I was dumb. I never thought to check the manufacture fitmit guide before I bought a set of CIIs. So far I've had very good results with them in both mileage and handling, even in heavy rain. The front end still feels as stable as ever. But that might be from the fact that 98 1500A12 it a lighter bike. I guess the retailers have no responsibility to tell the buyer that the tire maker doesn't recommend a tire for your model of bike? Like Otter said, caveat emptor.

You ever take your hands off the bars? Maybe I'm paranoid and the shake is nothing. Honda's official answer to their shake issues were, "don't take your hands off the bars." Mic drop.


Anyway, on the 1700, Kawasaki specs Exedra G721/722 Suffix "E"

Thought, you want a MC2 tire, but didnt found the correct size.

Mine also have a little head shake, BUT not more or worse than with the stock tires.
So I believe, that there is more than the head bearing thing involved.
Riding conditions like road, weight on the bike, suspension settings, etc.

I just dont take BOTH hands of the bars. Never saw/had any reason for.

I LOVE THOSE TIRES !

Use some ceramic balancing beads and LOVE the Commander ll's. I ride VERY aggressively and have LOVED them so much I am on my second set

No offence taken at all, sorry it sounded that way.

I'm running the stock size on the front, 180 on the back.

I posted the link to the fitment guide to confirm that michelin says "no". Type in your bike model, any bike and if it recognizes it, it will show stock size and whether or not they have a recommended tire.

About hands off the bars: It's a thing. I figure if I can set the cruise at 110 on an empty, straight, flat piece of road and stretch out.... well... it's a neat thing to do. And if every last thing is ok, she won't shake.
