I have a 2011 Nomad. My tires are still good but with all the rain and cold weather I am trying to make good use of my time :) I have searched this forum, google, and youtube to no avail. Anyone have a video or at least step by step instructions on changing the front and rear tire on the vn1700?

I suppose it will be the same for 09 and up although with the pipe redesign on the 2011 I guess it could be different in 11.

I would love to have confidence in changing my own tires on this bike when the need arises next year. I have changed my own in the past on smaller, shaft driven bikes. I had a vstar 650 that was not bad to work on at all.

Any who....if you have or know of a video I would be most appreciative.

I did the front on My 2009 voyager a few months ago. Same forks as yours. I also found this video of a 1600 mean streak on youtube that is basically the same as our setups. It will help and the tool this guy made for the 22 millimeter hex axle will save you shopping for a 22 mil hex. Hope it helps. I will look around some more on here as I know I posted on a thread about front tire change. Will also shoot you a link on that when I find it.

I looked all over youtube and this was the best I could find for the rear tire removal. The quick way. LOL. Someone will find You a better way on here for that rear.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtvDRMUgzlQ :)
Think I will pass on that rear tire removal :eek: I could see that ending in a lot of ways, none of which are good. ;)

I do appreciate the front wheel removal. Next time someone on here changes their rear tire on a 1700 maybe we can get them to do a video.

The problem seems to be the difference in skillset between riding a scoot and operating electronics but who knows.

Did it a couple times on my Voyager, a bit more to it because of the trunk. 1st time was going back n forth to manual and took about 4hrs including tire replacement by hand. 2nd time was just over 2hrs. Once you get the bags and pipes or shocks off, its pretty basic. If you remove shock you can get axel out with pipes on, I found this better. Mine has ABS which adds a couple steps, about 10-15 total.

For the front axel, I bought a Lisle shock absorber tool number 20400 from O'Riley's for about $10. Was a tight fit to get in about 1/8" so I took a flat file and filed each of 6 sides until it fit in most/all the way. Took me about 10 to do this and I think its a 7/8" socket that fits this. This also allows for easy use of a torque wrench.
