With normal routine maintenance done properly, I would not expect to replace any major engine components for at least 100,000 miles. Maybe even twice that much.

Thanks, Archie.

My daughter and I bought a pair of 900s last Fall. They have 40,00 and 60,00 miles on them, both owned originally by the same couple. We got maintenance records with them, so think they are pretty up to date. Got a good package deal but wondered how close they were to their expected life mileage. Looks like they will be around a bit longer.

Do the regular maintenance on them and you may want to change to a full synthetic oil. They'll last as long as any car.

How many miles can I expect my VN900's engine to last?
Heaps. I still see these little bikes around:

Four tiny cylinders, measuring 250cc in total, revving out to 16,000 or so and over 20 years of novice riders treating them like dirt. Can't say how many bits have been replaced though.
