Once again I'm pretty new at motorcycles.
My question is.... considering the speed limit is 30mph for the majority of places around here.

Is it better to be on 3rd gear and rev a bit higher or be on 4th and rev low? Since 30mph seems to be that dividing line,

and I guess it applies to other gears as well.

I feel I have more control in 3rd because I can still speed up and slow down if I have to, but the engine is working a bit harder. In 4th the engine feels less strained but if I slow down too much it sounds TOO slow so I have to switch back to 3rd at times.

As long as the motor is not lugging it is a personal preference.

I say use 3rd, but I use both. It depends on the day, and the weather, and if there is traffic.
If its nice and warm I'd pick 4th, if there's traffic - 3rd, if sunny 4th, if windy 3rd.
OR just go with the flow which most likely is 35mph and then 4th is fine!
BUT its better to rev than to have the motor strain and also so you cant accelerate quickly if needed!
