As with every bike I've begun to customize, I will be removing tank badges etc.

Question about debadging the cases . . Has anyone done it Succesfully? Are the Kawasaki logos etched, painted or what?

Your insight is appreciated.

I debadged my whole bike this winter. The tank badges are a put on with double sided tape that is stronger then super glue. The etched on stuff goes away with a wire bush pretty easy. It looks pretty good when completed.

When I see a bike that has been debadged and does not have custom paint I assume it was wrecked and repainted and the person didn't have the $ or inclination to finish the job.

I love when the Harley guys saunter over to my Voyager and then have to lean in to read the badging on the tank, but don't want anyone to know that they find the bike interesting. LOL!

Finally! Some Banter!

So the guy from Buffalo is dissing me about . . weather? Ironic. Still, there is some truth to what your saying. It's been a long winter and only in the last few days has it been really nice. I've only put 100 miles on it myself this spring since buying and beginning my mods. I'll get maybe 3000 miles on it this summer if all goes well.

Hey, at least you live in a great Hockey town, uhhh . . well, usually. I was born and raised in British Columbia, so I'm a Canucks fan through and through.

Ahhhh . . Starting to like the forum!

Yup, not for everyone, just my thing. I've had my share of Harley riders saunter up to the M109. They can saunter if they wish. I keep the badges for resale. Oh . . and a carfax. : )

Debadged The Engine Cases . . Great results!

OK, for those of you who love the fact you own a Vulcan, but feel like I do, that the "Kawasaki" on each engine case looks odd (What? No "Let the good times roll"?) heres what I did to a very good result.

1) Do Not use an abrasive of any kind . . not steel wool, no wire brush.

2) Mask off each engine case "circle" with the "Kawasaki" on it. Mask your lower frame beneath as well to protect painted finishes.

3) Wearing rubber gloves, ( I have disposable surgeons gloves) take a soft rag and dip it in some furniture stripper. The gel is the best as it's easiest to control.

4) Apply a generous layer on the area and leave it to wrinkle up the clear coat well.

5) After 15 minutes or so, use a heavy duty cleaner to get that stuff off. You may find that not all the clear coat came off and likely none of the "Kawasaki".

6) I washed the area with Lacquer thinner after the detergent and did a few times. It keeps the little remaining clear coat soft.

7) Use your finger nail or a nylon scraper to clean up any remaining clear coat and begin to gently scrape away the "Kawasaki"

8) After the logo was mostly off, I used a scratch remover and a polishing compound along with my drill mounted Power Ball polisher that finished the job and makes the case look better than it ever did.

Here's a pic of right side... Nice and shiny . . .

someone mentioned carfax... I have 0 faith in carfax.... as it only lists reported accidents....not the ones that happen in the middle of the night and get fixed by a buddy so no one knows about it

It was a long winter but in the 70's again today. Glad you took the ironic ribbing so well.

Not a big Hockey fan but do cheer for the Sabres when we're winning...not a whole lot this year. More of a football guy and THE BILLS ARE LOOKIN GOOD for the new season.

Keep Customizing and Modding!!

Holy . . Wandering Subject Matter Batman!

:p It was a subtle joke (by me), and not intended to hijack the thread . . (that I started) about HOW (not whether or not I should) de-badge the Vulcan's engine cases.

Ribbing . . That Was Awesome!

I'm a Canucks fan . . you GOT to Have Thick Skin!

I've been a fan of Buffalo ever since Doug Flutie (Formerly a BC Lion of the CFL) Helped create some excitement there in the late 90's. That was some serious political crap going on. Tough to be a little man in the NFL . . .I even had a box of Flutie Flakes until my wife opened them up by accident. We're not together anymore. (Haaa!)

Has anyone taken the plastic rings with the Vulcan 1700 logos off of the breather covers? My decals look kind of faded but I know if I remove them I am not going to be happy with the rings either they remind me of the center caps on chevy trucks and they always fad over time.
