Just cleaning my bike ( 09 classic LT) and i was thinking ... how much have i sunk into this sucker, naturally you may have to use the conversion rate, you know, what you told the wife and what it really cost. BTW .. these are cdn $$$$$ for the bike, US $$$ for accessories

Not much more than purchase

Lets see I bought a NEW 09 classic LT with all prep and taxes for 10129 CND all up. Had to spend I think close to 900 or 1000 insurance for the year. I live in Canada with Socialism you see. I put a custom built seat totaly built at a local shop for I think 525 after tax so I guess I am into it for 11.6 to 12.5 CND.For 1 year This includes insurance that I dont think others are counting.

not to bad for 2 bikes but I still have a long way to go it would have been a lot more if I had to pay for all the mods that the bike came with when I bought them.

Let's see...

$6300 for the bike. (09LT)
$189 for the tax.
$200 for me to drive 900 miles to get it... (local dealer wouldn't come CLOSE to a "price match!" :D)
$200 for rear floorboards.
$30 for a vanity plate.
$30 for a cheesy throttle lock.

Is.... $6949. So far.

Projected FY11 Mods:

Seat - $375
Exhaust - $150 (for backup pipes/drill extension/bi-metal bits etc... for a debaffle)
Lights - 'Bout $200

I'll probably keep the total under 8K. I might pop for a Fuel Integrator and self-mod the air box - MAYBE a ScootWorks pulley/cog - but I didn't buy this bike to trick out....

I'll probably keep it mostly stock and just ride it.

I'm not saying. Anything you say can and will be used against you in divorce court :D

I upgraded the all of electronics on my boat last year and the wife found the catalog  You can't really hide new bigger color screens. Never leave receipts or catalogs laying around the house.

I figure you could buy a bike for whatever-$12K to 15K, and have a pretty nice ride. Or you could buy a $7K bike (as I did) and use it as a platform and accessorize it just the way you want it. For instance, in my case I wanted saddlebags, a backrest and a fairing for long rides. But I wanted it all quick release because I do most of my riding around town and I really don't like windshields & such. I got a MS batwing, a Corbin seat (w/removeable backrest) and bags w/ghost brackets. I can make it a tourer in about 10 minutes and back to a cruiser in about 3. If I had bought an LT or similar tourer I wouldn't be able to convert to a cruiser at all.

My total? I'd guess around $2500 in accessories. I haven't done any performance mods. Yet.

Oh, and I keep my clandestine buys to music equipment;). The missus has been involved in every purchase for the Vulc.

Well, this thread certainly peaked my interest; I dug out all the receipts...

Bike & Tax: $8600
Kawi Regulator Cover: $42
Kawi Luggage Rack: $213
Kawi Light Bar: $312
Kawi Lowers: $141
Kawi Passenger Boards: $309
Oil Cap: $36
Kawi Engine Guard: $223
Kury Grips & Boss: $91
Kawi Windshield Bag: $83
Cobra License Plate Frame: $45
Kewl Metal Helmet Locks: $72
Mustang Tank Bib: $51
Custom SS Radiator Cover: $55

Total: $10,273 ($1,673 in accessories)

Not too bad compared to others. I'm done now, because I'm looking to move to a Voyager in the spring.

I've bought all of my accessories "gently" used, so other than the purchase price, I've been VERY lucky! :) Plus, I got a fair purchase price too!

Out of the crate, out the door, tags/taxes/freight, etc. - $6600
Cobra Standard Backrest/Sissybar - $125
Cobra Standard Luggage Rack - $75
Kury Iso Grips w/ Throttle Boss - $55
Low Profile Mirrors - ~$16

Debaffle - free
Redneck Air mod (in progress) - free
OD/RPM mod (done with tire replacement that was needed anyway) - I consider that free
License Plate Relocate - free

12,000 miles of riding this beautiful beast - based on the smile on my face, PRICELESS

*shh, don't tell the wife* I do plan on converting the custom to apes over the winter though, and that will probably be a bit more costly. :D :D :D

Forgot to mention, if you tally up the bling for ME (leather gear, helmets, shades/goggles, boots, etc.) I might just get in trouble! LOL

I'll play.

Mint '07 900 LT with 3140 miles in July '09, $5100 (no sales tax in Oregon). PO had OEM highway bars and OEM luggage rack installed.

Risers, $30.
Stebel air horn, $40
Isogrips, $55
Vista Cruise, $40
Utopia driver backrest, studded, $220
Used OEM studded gel seat for commuting, $150
Used Kuryakin offset highway pegs, $100
OEM windshield lowers $130
T-bag for touring, $70
Fuel gauge mod, $1.98

$5936.98. And to think I wanted a Harley...

I've put 11,000+ of my own trouble-free miles on it so far, and loved every one...well, I didn't love that 28 degree morning departure from Tonopah NV, but that's another story.

As i said, i had matuza bags and a batwing on order, i installed them to day, the costs were calculated in my post ...... the $$$'s keep rolling out, after getting them painted two tone, i am pretty much done, Im not really interested in the performance mods past my scootworks front pulley. Pics of the batwing and bags are at this link.
