So Im just going to get this part out of the way, Im just a dumb cop with his first (finally) bike, and loving it. But I do and will continue to have questions, because its just easier than looking for the answers that in turn, create more questions.🤦‍♂️ So my first question, Im looking at getting a set of new bars, id like them a little higher, as Im built like a gorilla and the factory bars seem a bit low. Looking at the options Im finding, I need to figure out what rise I want, which means I need to know what the rise of the factory bars are. Looking at going up somewhere between 3-6”. The bike is a 2006 Nomad 1600. Its got 5700 miles on it. Any help is greatly appreciated, as Im sure I will have more in the future. Thank you

Instead of changing bars, just get a different set of risers. There are a lot of different styles and sizes available.

I was seeing a lot of people putting risers on, but Im still trying ti figure out the size. Does a 2” riser add 2”? I know that sounds stupid, but when you look at leveling kits for a truck, a 3” lift comes from a spacer that’s approximately 1-1.5” thick. And am I correct in saying that with risers I would NOT have to add longer cables?
Typically, when looking for risers, the rise and pullback listed for those is the change from stock. I'm not sure what the limit you can go without longer cables and hydraulic lines, but I would guess 1 1/2" to 2" of rise (depending on the amount of pullback) would be OK.
If you are talking about a round extension that goes under your stock riser, then yes a 2" would raise it 2". If you are just wanting the bars higher and not back farther , then that would be the type you want. They do make them up to at least 3". If you go too high, you'll have to get extended cables.
I have 2" risers on my 2006 Nomad with stock cables & brake lines. Because the forks are raked at an angle, the risers do move the bars back somewhat, in addition to up. I had to fiddle a bit with the bar height by rotating them in the clamps a bit. This can effectively raise the height but also (obviously) affects the angle of the grips. Mine are rotated down quite a bit from "stock" because I am decidedly not apelike in stature. :D

Thank you! Looks like I’ll be setting myself up with some 2” risers. As for being ape like… I get the jokes all the time, especially from the other SWAT guys. Not tall, but rather….thick? Hard to describe, and well, only bike pictures here! 😂😂 Magilla Gorilla is a common joke i hear

I would concur with the idea of adding risers to the bars. I did 2-inch risers on my 1600 Mean Streak. It was just right.

I had a 2006 1600 Nomad that I added 3" risers to and you gain an additional 1 7/8" set back and no modifications to any wiring or cables/hoses. Below is the link where I got mine and Joe is great to deal with. Enjoy!

You may also want the Idaho Jack Adapter if you plan on doing work on it yourself.

First, I also would like to say a big thank you for putting yourself out there to keep us safe/keep the peace. You all need hazard pay these days! From the sound of it, you bought the bike from an individual? You might check with your local Kawasaki dealer. It may be I'm just extremely lucky, but my dealer and his shop guys always give me guidance (for free!) on what will fit and what might be a problem. Hope you are enjoying your Nomad. I bought mine, used, last year and have had the dealer add a few do-dads:) I'm not at all mechanically inclined:-(

Thank you very much! I did buy from an individual, it was my Father in Laws bike. He bought it, and shortly after said he couldn’t hold it up because of sciatica. My gain! Ill be going to the dealership soon to get a rear tire put on, and Ill see if I can make any “friends” thanks again!
