I want to do a 240 rear wheel mod on a 2008 Vulcan 900 Custom, but buying a new rim from meancycles is over $2000 just for the wheel alone, which is pretty crazy.

I have found a set of Harley Breakout 2016 wheels with rubber for less then $500. How easy would it be to fit these to a Vulcan 900? Would it just need spacers for the wheel bearings? How well would the breaks and pully fit?

Even if it cost a few hundred to get them fit it would still be a lot cheaper then buying new wheels. But I just want to know what might be involved before getting in over my head haha

Swing arm, sprockets, chain/belt, shock mounts, lots more. All have to be modified or replaced.
Umm the bike is belt driven? Also i doubt the swing arm will need to be replaced since there is already a 240 mod for that bike that doesn't require a swing arm replacement.

Most I could see from my research is a new pully and maybe the break disk. Probably some calliper placement modifications depending on how you go about it. And some axle spacers to fit it.

I can get the wheels even cheaper now so i think i will get them and just try. Worst case i can probably make some money reselling the wheels.

Let us know how it works out. The pulley swap is likely the most challenging depending on bolt pattern. As long as the caliper does not have to move out too far, as it would stress more exponentially with each mm of spacers used.

I am not going to be in any rush to get it done because i will still need a new fender and some other stuff but we will see how it goes, will post any updates if and when i go ahead with it all.

I did find a cheap breakout pulley which would fit the bolt pattern and is actually the same amount of teeth as the vulcan. So might just be the break calliper which will be the hardest part. Will be an interesting experiment i think.

I don't see a 240 going back there without modding the swing arm, shock mounts, sprockets and brake/rod. And you're better off with a chain when you go to fat rears. It's about 1/3rd as wide as a belt and the sprockets are much easier to space. But I'd like to see it done simply with a new set of wheels. It would be really cool.

I am going to pick up the wheels tomorrow. When i get back home next week i will pull the rear wheel off and see how hard it is going to look, so guess we will see.

But i have seen a few people have done 240s on the vulcan 900 already and they say the stock swing arm is fine. The kits even say that all you need is a new pulley and rear fender. But the wheels on the kits are designed for the vulcan.

Got the wheels, gonna take me a while to do but if I can manage to get them mounted I might do a write up on it. Will have to change the back tire as it has a 250 mounted currently and that won't fit in the swing arm.

I bet the belt didn't clear the tire either. I'm guessing it's going to be a minimum $1200 for parts not counting the wheels and tires.
Dunno haven't tried it yet. I mean even if it did cost that it would still be cheaper then buying the kit. I am not sure why you seem to think the 240 won't fit when there are bolt on kits out there that only require the wheel, a new pulley, a new fender and nothing else?

The worst I expect here will be fitment of the break rotors and calipers. Already got a cheap pulley lined up that will fit these bolt patterns and the kawasaki belt. But I will let you know how it goes when I finally do get into it. Might be a few months though as I got a lot of other things I gotta do first.
