Has anyone done a handlebar swap on their 500? If so, what did you use?

Today I had a chance at a complete factory handlebar and riser set off a late 90's 1500. Price was decent, bars aren't bent, and the best part is they're adjustable. They are a bit wider than my factory bars, and I'm not sure if the factory 1500 riser will work in place of my current stock fixed position bars.

The riser I was looking at had the fixed spread(?) between the bolts, and I didn't have a tape measure with me to get an accurate measurement. By eye, they look to be pretty close.

Also the bushing mounts, are they similar enough they will work?

Any info is appreciated...

I swapped the narrow OEM bars for one from a Victory Vegas. I used an aftermarket set of 'pullback' risers to mount them to the forks. The Victory Vegas bars are 1" dia so the grips, mirror mounts, and switches transfered without issue.

This is the best pic I could find on short notice that shows off the setup:

I had thought about using aftermarket risers with a used set of bars, just not sure how far up and back to go with the risers. What are the measurements on yours?

A quick measurement is about 2.5" from the top bracket to the handlebar center and about 1" to the rear from the mounting bolt center to the handlebar center.

Thanks for the info!

I might buy this bar/riser set and try them anyway, but haven't decided yet. Price is good ($25 for the bars, risers, and front master cylinder). I need the clamp piece from the master cylinder that mounts the mirror anyway, so it might be worthwhile to just buy the whole setup. If they don't work, maybe someone else on the forums here will need them.

Either way, I've noticed very limited amounts of interchange info for the 500's, so maybe we can start building some kind of database to help out for future questions...
