Changed my risers, 4 1/2 high- 1" back., installed forward, so 1" forward with stock bars on 05 800 classic. Had to move my front brake hose to the front of tree, pretty much all the slack there is. any more, and would have to change hose, and cables. Maybe another inch or so in the wires.

By the way, one reason I mount my risers backwards, curving forward, is that they hit the speedo cluster at full turn. For me they are very comfortable. Also rotated the handle bars forward and up just short of the windshield.

 

Check your state law...

In NH the handlebars cannot be higher then your shoulders.
Other states may vary.....

 

I have 10" mini apes now.. I would say you could do 10" with stock cables would have to run them a little different. I went a little over kill on cables cause I found some on Craig's list here in town. I love of the bike feels now all my back pain is gone!

I went with Flanders 10 classic mini apes for a Harley. 10" tall 10" pull and 8.5 center 33.5 grip to grip. I love them no more back pain and I think it handles better At parking lot speeds now. I'll try and post a pic have to remember hoe first lol
